Background

The daughter of a sailor, Roxie was a Pokémon trainer who also played bass guitar and sangs as the leader of a rock band. She became the gym leader of Virbank City's gym and combined her interests by making her gym into an underground rock club, where her band constantly performed on stage. She would not notice trainers attempting to challenge her over the sound of her own music, so challengers would first have to defeat her bandmates, Roughneck Nicky and Guitarist Billy Jo.

In Black 2 and White 2, Roxie was first seen arguing with her father and trying to dissuade him from pursuing an acting career at Pokéstar Studios, as she thought that this would distract him too much from his sailing job. She then returned to her gym, where she could be challenged and defeated by Nate/Rosa. She scolded herself in the third person for her loss, but she did also recognize that she had given her battle her all and felt refreshed and revitalized as a result. Roxie gave the trainer the Toxic Badge as well as TM09: Venoshock. She told Nate/Rose that their Pokémon wanted this win and that they should keep on going on like that. Afterwards, Roxie coordinated an effort to catch members of Team Plasma within and near the city, in fear of her Pokémon being taken. After Nate/Rosa and Hugh were successful in stopping them, she gave them HM01: Cut.

Despite her initial hostility about the idea, Roxie did watch at least one of her father's movies from Pokéstar Studios and liked it. She helped him to feel better about his performance and said that she'd be supportive of him if he did not cause trouble. Afterwards, Roxie was seen by Driftveil City, where she came to check out the Pokémon World Tournament. She ultimately entered it and could be battled in the Driftveil, Unova Leaders, World Leaders and Type Expert divisions. Roxie also sometimes visited Cynthia at her villa during the summer.

Pokémon Roster

In battle, Roxie uses a Koffing and a Whirlipede, as well as a Grimer in Challenge Mode.

For tournament battles, her roster could include some or all of the following Pokémon:

Other Appearances

Other Media

  • Roxie was featured in a two-part episode of the Pokémon anime during the Unova-based series. In this series, she was the eighth gym leader who Ash defeated to earn his final badge, in a deviation from the order in the games. Roxie's band was named Koffing and the Toxics.
  • She also appeared in the Pokémon Adventures manga during the Black 2/White 2 arc. She had been appointed as a judge for the Autumn Choral Competition and helped to take on Team Plasma.

Trivia

  • Her name seems to be a play on 'rock' and 'toxic'.
  • Roxie's appearance in the anime aired prior to the release of Black 2/White 2, technically making that her actual first appearance.
  • In her gym, she sings a song spelling out "Pokémon". In the Japanese version, her song instead spells out the Japanese name for Koffing.
