Seviper is a sharp-tailed serpentine Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It has no evolutionary line, but it is connected to Zangoose through their eternal rivalry.

Information[edit]

Seviper has a swordlike tail which can slash foes and douse them with secreted poison. They sharpen their tails on hardened rocks and hide in tall grass from which they stalk unwary prey to bite into with their venomous fangs. Seviper has feuded with Zangoose for generations, and their bodies usually have scars from their battles. Seviper's sharp tail and poison are its way of countering Zangoose's superior agility. It will not give up this long-running blood feud with the Zangoose.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Seviper could be found uncommonly at Route 114, being rarer in Emerald. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, it could appear at Routes 208 and 210 when using the dual slot method with Sapphire present in the GBA slot. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could appear at the Safari Zone's Marshland area if enough Plains objects were present. In Black and White, it was uncommonly found at Route 11 and the Village Bridge.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it could be caught in the Wilderness at the Sapphire Field. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Secret Storage 20, Endless Level 41, Forever Level 41 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the thirteenth through fifteenth floors of Mt. Freeze, the twentieth through twenty-fourth floors of Northern Range, the first five floors of Murky Cave and the sixty-second through sixty-ninth floors of Joyous Tower. In Explorers of Time and Darkness, it was recruitable at the first seven basement floors of Crystal Cave.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Jessie of Team Rocket caught a Seviper shortly into the Hoenn series after befriending it shortly following her Arbok's release. She had been impressed by the Seviper, although she also beat it after it bit off a piece of her hair and eluded the initial capture attempts. Seviper was Jessie's main Pokémon for the Hoenn, Battle Frontier and Sinnoh series, although she used in less in the last series after getting her Yanmega. One episode did focus on its rivalry with Zangoose, and Jessie was actually concerned for Seviper's safety due to its willingness to fight it to the death. It was later left at Team Rocket HQ before Team Rocket moved on to Unova. Seviper have also been featured in the hands of other trainers, such as Lucy in the Battle Frontier series.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, a wild Seviper was shown as an early opponent in the Ruby/Sapphire arc, and it menaced Ruby and Sapphire during their first meeting but was beaten by Sapphire's Torchic. A later chapter had a Seviper and Zangoose stopping their battle to attack Ruby and the swimmer, and they stopped when blinded by Ruby's new Feebas. During the Emerald arc, Seviper was featured as Lucy's main Pokémon

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is play on "viper" combined with "sever" (due to its tail sharpness).
