Debut Pokémon X/Y

Olympia is a Gym Leader of the Kalos region who appeared as an opponent in Pokémon X and Y. She is the seventh Gym Leader to be battled in the game and specializes in Psychic-type Pokémon.

Background[edit]

Olympia was a mysterious Pokémon trainer who tended to speak cryptically, dramatically and in the form of haikus. She acted as the Gym Leader of Anistar City's gym and held the Psychic Badge. Like most Psychic-type trainers, she seemed to possess psychic powers of her own such as precognition. According to one tourist, she told fortunes and was known to always be accurate, whether it was about one's love life or the fate of a corporation. Despite that, Olympia also seemed to believe in allowing others to create their own paths and futures. Her gym consisted of a series of structures resembling planetoids, which were connected by warp panels.

In X/Y, she was challenged and defeated by Calem/Serena. She gave them the Psychic Badge and TM 04: Calm Mind. Afterwards, she could appear at the Battle Chateau as an opponent with the rank of Marchioness, after the player had reached the same rank of Marquis/Marchioness.

Pokémon Roster[edit]

For battles at the Battle Chateau, she will use Sigilyph and Meowstic if the player has not yet beaten the Elite Four. After the Elite Four are beaten, she will use Slowking instead of Sigilyph.

In Other Pokémon Games[edit]

In Pokémon Masters EX, Olympia and Sigilyph appeared as a playable sync pair that could be recruited at random through the game's Sync Pair Scout feature after being added to the game in August 2023.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, she appeared in several episodes of the series based on X/Y. She was first referred to by Tierno, who was defeated when he tried to challenge her gym. When she first appeared, she showcased her powers by reading the memories of Ash's Frogadier, as well as both foreseeing and foiling Team Rocket's plan to steal Anista's sundial. She had also foreseen the events of the Mega Evolution specials and helped Kalos to prepare for disaster. In the next episode, Ash defeated her in a gym battle to win her badge, and she also told Professor Sycamore about a vision she had of a coming disaster. She made several more appearances afterwards, including telling Diantha about her visions and helping to destroy the Giant Rock in the climactic arc of that series.
  • Olmpia appeared in Pokémon Adventures during the X/Y arc, in which she worked with the other Gym Leaders of Kalos to repeatedly oppose Team Flare. She utilized her psychic powers several times, including a failed attempt to stop the ultimate weapon from activating.

Trivia[edit]

  • Olympia's name comes from the the word "olympian", which can refer to anything celestial or godlike in nature, and Olympia also refers to the name of a plant genus. Her Japanese name is Gojika, which is named after a plant known as Pentapetes phoenicaa and also references a Japanese word for time.
  • Her dialogue after giving her TM differs depending on the version. In X, she refers to power to give life, while in Y, she refers to power to take away life instead. This reflects the natures of Xerneas and Yveltal, the Legendary Pokémon featured in each respective version, as well as what Lysandre attempts to do with the ultimate weapon after his defeat.
  • According to the Gym Freaks program, the inside of her cloak has a galaxy pattern due to the belief that psychic power is enhanced by zero gravity. The reporter is also under the impression that placing their wrist into Olympia's bracelet will allow her to see their future.
