Debut The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Tulin is a young Rito warrior who originally made a minor appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild before reappearing with a supporting role in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, where he became the new Sage of Wind.

Background[edit]

Tulin was the son of Teba and Saki who lived in Rito Village. He was an excitable and friendly young Rito who liked to practice with a bow and sought to become a skilled Rito warrior like his father. He often played with his father at the Flight Range, which Teba saw as preparing him to become a warrior.

In Breath of the Wild, Tulin looked forward to the Flight Range and was worried when his father was injured in battle with Vah Medoh. After Teba recovered, he took Tulin to the Flight Range. There, Tulin would test Link's archery skills with target practice and would give him prizes if he did well enough.

Tears of the Kingdom[edit]

Over the next few years, Tulin grew older and seemed to enter his teenage years. He became much more skilled as a warrior and developed a rare ability to produce gusts of wind. Tulin also became more anxious to prove himself and confident in his abilities, which caused him to butt heads occasionally with his father, who had become the new chief of the Gerudo.

After the Upheaval, Rito Village was plagued by an endless snowstorm. While most of the Rito children stayed behind to take care of the village, Tulin was the only child who left the village to help other Ritos forage for food, likely due to his unique ability. Tulin came to suspect that the secret behind the storm had to do with the Stormwind Ark, which was the subject of a Rito children's song. Teba dismissed Tulin's theories and would not let him investigate them, much to Tulin's frustration.

When Link met with Tulin the Hebra Mountains, Tulin had lost his bow to a thieving Aerocuda. Tulin worked with Link to defeat the monster and retrieve it. This caused Tulin to understand the value of working with others and to see how he was holding back his maturity by trying to do everything by himself. Once Tulin admitted this to Teba, Teba told him that had been the only thing holding Tulin back from becoming the greatest Rito warrior of them all. With that, Tulin and Link got permission to look for the source of the blizzard together, which turned out to be the Stormwind Ark itself.

Aboard the Stormwind Ark, Tulin heard a mysterious voice calling out to him. He worked together with Link to solve the ship's puzzles and to defeat Colgera in order to stop the blizzard. In the aftermath of the battle, Tulin found the Zonai secret stone and received a vision from the voice calling out to him, which turned out to be that of his ancestor, the Ancient Sage of Wind. Learning about the plight of Hyrule and the role of the sages, Tulin accepted the secret stone and became the new Sage of Wind. Tulin gave a vow to Link and produced an avatar of himself to help Link when he could not personally accompany him.

After returning to Rito Village, Teba congratulated Tulin by giving him the Great Eagle Bow, which had belonged to Revali. Teba would come into action at Hyrule Castle after four of the sages had been awakened, at which point the sages worked together to save Link from a torrent of gloom that Ganondorf had summoned, and Ganondorf attempted to torment them with a vision of what he planned to do with the world. They all regrouped at Lookout Landing afterwards, where they decided that they needed to find a fifth sage. Tulin returned to the Rito Village to seek out local information that could be connected to the mysterious sage.

Once all five sages were awakened, they came into action during the final battle in the Depths of Hyrule. They showed up to help battle Ganondorf's forces and then took on the bosses he summoned while Link went ahead, with Tulin battling Colgera again. The sages showed up to help in the final battle against Ganondorf, but they were ultimately knocked out. Ganondorf was still defeated by Link. In the aftermath of it all, the sages gathered to bid farewell to Mineru, and Tulin prompted the remaining sages to swear a vow to protect Princess Zelda and Hyrule.

In Other Zelda Games[edit]

In Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Tulin made a non-playable appearance as part of the game's DLC. He was featured in one mission, in which it turned out that he had somehow followed his father into the past and ended up lost in the Korok Forest. Teba and Revali worked together to save him in an escort mission. Afterwards, Tulin excitedly told Revali about his dreams of becoming a great warrior. Revali acknowledged his potential, but Teba reminded Tulin that he had to surpass his old man first. Tulin did an impersonation of Revali which unexpectedly made the Champion laugh. Tulin also fell over while trying to show off his new move, 'Tulin's Tornado', and Revali reminded him that he had a long way to go. Tulin also appeared in one of a series of epilogue cutscenes, where he was resting on Revali and blowing a blanket into the air in his sleep, which Revali tried to keep on Tulin.

Trivia[edit]

  • Out of the sages who first appeared in Breath of the Wild, he is the only one who is not related to one of the Champions and to have not acted as one of the Champion successor characters in the preceding game, though he is the son of one of the latter.
