Debut The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Osfala is a supporting character from The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds who appeared as one of the game's seven sages.

Background[edit]

Osfala was a young man who was descended from the seven sages of the past. He developed an overconfident attitude, as he believed himself to be just as powerful as the sages themselves. He was intent on proving himself as the new hero of Hyrule and impressing Princess Zelda. Osfala managed to become a pupil of Sahasrahla and performed tasks for him.

During the events of A Link Between Worlds, Sahasrahla sent Osfala to investigate reports of a suspicious person who had been spotted near the Eastern Palace. Before departing from Kakariko Village, he rented a Sand Rod from a traveling merchant, which he believed made him invincible. By the entrance to the Eastern Palace, Link confronted Osfala with a warning from Sahasrahla to return to the village in order to protect himself from someone who was looking for a descendant of the sages. Osfala brushed off the warning, because he was sure that he could handle the situation. So he entered the Eastern Palace, and Link next found him in the palace's bossroom. He confronted Yuga, only to be quickly defeated and turned into a painting by Yuga's magic.

The paintings of the seven sages and Princess Zelda were then used in a ceremony to restore Ganon. Afterwards, the sages' paintings were distributed to different bosses throughout Lorule. Osfala's painting ended up in Thieves' Town, where it was watched over by Blind the Thief. Link eventually freed him, which resulting in Osfala awakening as a sage and teleporting to the Chamber of Sages. There, he was stunned to discover that it was Link who had rescued him and was now wielding the Master Sword. He was puzzled by the idea that he had ended up being the sage rather then the hero of this quest, but he saw that he had no choice but to accept this position. In fact, he ultimately claimed that he should have seen Link's inner greatness the first time they met. Osfala also gave him the Sand Rod, as he could not return it to Ravio while he was stuck there. After all of the sages were freed, they used their power to summon the Triforce of Courage for Link.

After the crisis was resolved, the sages were all returned to Hyrule. Osfala went back to Kakariko Village and was reunited with Sahasrahla and the housekeeper, the latter weeping at his return.

Trivia[edit]

  • His name seems to be derived from the Arabic word for 'yellow', as most of the new sages have color-themed names.
  • Sahasrahla's elderly housekeeper seems to have a crush on him. She laments that he seems to want to become Zelda's hero when she had hoped he would become hers instead. Her robe was also apparently a present from Osfala, and she used to think that he had meant something by giving it to her.
  • Despite how pompous he can be, he is known to play with the children around the village.
