Debut Pokémon X/Y

Wikstrom is one of the members of the Elite Four of Kalos who appears in Pokémon X and Y as one of the final opponents. He specializes in Steel-type Pokémon.

Background[edit]

Wikstrom was a Pokémon trainer who emulated the image of a classical knight. He dressed up in armor and addressed others in a refined manner, while upholding a code of honor and fairness. He referred to himself as "the Elite Four's famed blade of hardened Steel". He also seemed to consider himself to be the strongest of the Elite Four, as if the player had battled him first, then he would remark that it was likely the result of man's nature that they would choose to battle the strongest enemy first.

In X/Y, he was defeated by Calem/Serena and reflected on his defeat in a poetic manner while praising the trainer. Afterwards, Wikstrom could appear as an opponent at the Battle Chateau, where he held the title of Duke, after the player had obtained the same rank of Duke/Duchess.

Pokémon Roster[edit]

At the Battle Chateau, he uses all of those Pokémon except for Klefki.

In Other Pokémon Games[edit]

In Pokémon Masters EX, he and his Aegislash appeared together as a playable sync pair that could be recruited at random through the game's Sync Pair Scout feature. When fought in battle, he could alternately partner up with Probopass or Scizor. In Chapter 22 of the Main Story's PML Arc, he and Wulfric had brought Paulo into their team for the Pokémon Masters League tournament in hopes of raising his spirits, and they ultimately faced defeat from Scottie/Bettie's team. He has also made several small appearances in some of the game's events, from greeting challengers to the Midnight Battle Ball while posing as a haunted suit of armor at Lear's request in the "Midnight Battle Ball" Story Event to acting as part of Hilda and Diantha's team in the competition of the "Poké War Games" Costume Event and engaging Diantha in a practice duel. Wikstrom also appeared as an opponent in the Champion Stadium's Kalos Challenge, which emulated the Elite Four line-up from the respective region.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Wikstrom was first seen in a cameo appearance during the introductory sequence of the seventeenth movie, where he was seen Mega Evolving his Scizor in a battle against Diantha. He later made a full appearance in the Pokémon Journeys series, where he ran a training camp called the Castle of Chivalry that Ash Ketchum and Goh both took part in. The training involved traversing obstacle courses while wearing armor and being attacked by Wikstrom's Pokémon. He also helped Goh to evolve his Scyther into Scizor by providing him with a Metal Coat for it and trading with him. He was later seen taking part in a brief battle with Drasna prior to her World Coronation Series battle with Ash, which Wikstrom spectated. He congratulated Ash for his victory and later cried at the performance of Ash's Sirfetch'd while watching Ash's final battle against Leon.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Wikstrom appeared during the X/Y arc. He worked together with the rest of the Elite Four as well as X's group and the Gym Leaders of Kalos in the effort against Team Flare. At one point, his Probopass helped to guide the others on the path to Team Flare's hideout.

Trivia[edit]

  • His Japanese name is Gampi, named after a group of Japanese shrubs. Those shrubs belong to the genus called Wikstroemia, which in turn serves as the basis of his English name.
  • If he gives the player an item after a Battle Chateau battle, he will claim that it is a treasure that has been "held by the esteemed knights of [his] family", before immediately contradicting that claim by saying that he picked it up at a shop and cannot remember if it was one or two weeks ago. Regardless, those lines indicate that Wikstrom hails from a lineage of knights or at least claims to.
  • In Pokémon Masters EX, he reveals some stories about his Pokémon. One is that his Klefki is a prankster who used to hide his keys from him, until he defeated it in a Pokémon battle. Since then, they became "jolly friends", and Wikstrom has entrusted the Klefki with the keys to his estate whenever he is away, such as during that trip to Pasio.
  • Wikstrom also reveals in Pokémon Masters EX that he has his Aegislash attack him as a form of training, but he is careful to only do so when wearing armor.
