Poppy is a younger Pokémon Trainer who acts as the second member of Paldea's Elite Four and an opponent in the ninth generation Pokémon games, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. She specializes in Steel-type Pokémon.

Background[edit]

Poppy was young a child was a skilled Pokémon Trainer. Her skilled was apparently great enough to qualify her for Elite Four membership at a young age. She was the second member of the Elite Four, being stronger than Rika. According to Rika, all of the Elite Four members were 'strong-armed' into joining by Geeta, who was the Pokémon League's Chairman and Top Champion. Poppy was very cheery and friendly towards others, and she maintained that cheery tone when stating her confidence in the superior strength of her Pokémon team, which she referred to as Team Poppy. Still being a child, Poppy sometimes would get sayings wrong. She wore a blue bonnet and dress, along with a necklace containing a large steel key-shaped object.

In Scarlet/Violet, Poppy would make her first appearance during the Victory Road storyline in the aftermath of Florian/Juliana's seventh Gym victory. Rika introduced Poppy to the trainer, and Poppy was happy to meet them while stating her confidence in her being stronger. When Florian/Juliana took on the Elite Test of the Champion Assessment, Rika called for Poppy after she was defeated and asked her to avenge her defeat. Poppy took on Florian/Juliana in battle, only to lose. She apologized to Rika for letting her down, and Rika corrected the wording she used. Poppy then called for the next Elite Four member, Larry, and joined Rika in spectating the remaining matches. After Florian/Juliana defeated Hassel, Poppy tried to calm Hassel down after he got emotional and offered him a hug. She then told Florian/Juliana that she liked their Pokémon and that she would be cheering for them in their battle against the Top Champion. She reappeared with the rest of the Elite Four to congratulate Florian/Juliana after they defeated Geeta, and they were also seen spectating Florian/Juliana's ultimate battle against Nemona in Mesagoza.
