Debut Metroid Prime: Hunters

Sylux is one of the six new bounty hunters introduced in Metroid Prime Hunters, Sylux battled Samus Aran on the Vesper Defense Outpost. Despite being defeated, he repeatedly challenged Samus in different locations in the Alimbic Cluster.

Background[edit]

Hunters[edit]

Very little is known about Sylux, save for his human-like stature and originating from a planet called Cylosis. He bears a grudge against the Galactic Federation and Samus Aran in particular. He has been known to get in skirmishes with Galactic Federation Troopers often. His arsenal of weapons as well as his ship, the Delano 7, are all stolen Federation Prototypes, some so dangerous that they were banned.

Like the other bounty hunters, he traveled to the Alimbic Cluster to get the secret power himself to add to his arsenal of deadly weapons. His many attempts were constantly thwarted by his hated foe, Samus. Although unable to gain the artifacts himself, he traveled to the Oubliette after it had been unlocked. Despite joining with the other bounty hunters, he was overwhelmed by Gorea and his weapon was absorbed. While Samus Aran dealt with the monster, he was able to escape on his ship.

Sylux is able to transform into the Lockjaw, during which he is able to release electricity. Sylux prefers the Shock Coil, an Electric-based weapon that continuously attacks (meaning it does not have a charge function).

Corruption[edit]

The Delano 7 from the ending

In the 100% ending of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Samus Aran is seen departing at faster than light speed. After her ship vanishes, a ship that resembles the Delano 7 is seen appearing from the foreground to pursue Samus Aran. Like the 100% endings from the other Metroid Prime titles, this likely implies a future title with Sylux as a primary nemesis.

Gameplay[edit]

Shock Coil[edit]

The Shock Coil fires a beam of high-density neutrinos and is presumably still under development by the Federation; Sylux has stolen a prototype form, making it his weapon of choice. It is referred to as the Blue Smoke in the Alimbic Prophecy and is the fourth of the weapons used to unlock the ultimate power. Another copy can be found by Samus in Incubation Vault 02 of the Celestial Archives in "Metroid Prime Hunters." The Shock Coil is represented by the color blue, and like the other weapons found in its respective game it is powered by the Universal Ammo scattered throughout the Tetra Galaxy. It is particularly effective against Trace.

The Shock Coil fires a beam that will latch onto its target and drain the object or person’s energy. It cannot be charged, but holding the fire button will cause it to remain attached to its victim. In the climax of "Metroid Prime Hunters," Sylux’s Shock Coil is stolen by Gorea along with the other hunters' weapons. Gorea will in turn use the Shock Coil against Samus whenever he turns red.

Lockjaw[edit]

The Lockjaw is a morph mode designed by Federation Scientists. It lacks the maneuverability of the Morph Ball, but is still quick and agile. It boasts the ability to set electrically charged bombs. Two of these will connect with an electric charge and a third one can be set to kill whatever happens to fall within the perimeter of the three attacks. The ability was stolen by Sylux when he took his suit, weapon, and ship.

Trivia[edit]

  • Of all the bounty hunters, Sylux seems to have been intended as Samus's 'archrival'. Of all the other bounty hunters, he shows up first in the intro video, has his actual ship appear, and was the only other 'all around fighter' besides Samus. He was likely chosen for his reappearance in Corruption for these reasons.
  • Sylux is never referred to in gender pronouns (and is referred "it" in the Brawl trophy), so in actuality Sylux's gender is unconfirmed.
  • Sylux appears as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
