Debut Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

Emperor Ing is the second to final boss of Metroid Prime 2 and is seen only in the very end.

Background[edit]

The first Ing to come in existence, and as such is their alpha and omega. Due to its age and power, it leads the horde and operates from the dark Sky Palace. Like its brethren, it is a metamorph capable of changing into a liquid form or take a more solid form. In order to increase its power, it has consumed massive amounts of Phazon. After Samus Aran had restored three of the four Energy Controllers, she arrived at the dark Sky Palace to claim the last Energy Controller. However, before she could, Emperor Ing absorbed the Energy Controller and used it to amplify its power.

Its first form was that of a large stationary creature with a large 'eye' on top and a collection of tentacles. When its 'eye' opened, it created a energy shield with only a small gap that attacks could penetrate. After it took enough damage, it closed its body up so as to regerate. While in this form, Samus was able to use her Spider Ball ability to stick to the sides of Emperor Ing and place bombs in key weakpoints. Despite the damage it took, it was able to regenerate enough to transform into the Mutated Emperor Ing.

In this form it resembled the Warrior Ing, only much larger. However, where the eye would be was replaced with something similar to a mouth glowing with energy. The energy initially was yellow-ish, at which point it was only vulnerable to the Power Beam. Once the energy changed to light or dark energy, it was vulnerable to a beam type of the opposite type. After enough damage, Emperor Ing was destroyed and yielded the Energy Controller, thus causing Dark Aether to collapse soon after.

Trivia[edit]

  • It's mutated form is quite similar in appearance to Metroid Prime's first form.
