Tanith is a playable unit in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and its sequel Radiant Dawn.

Background[edit]

Tanith was the deputy commander of Begnion's Holy Pegasus Knights, under Commander Sigrun in service of Begnion's apostle and empress, Sanaki. Tanith also worked in training the other pegasus knights, and her harsh training regimen and attitude towards her pupils caused them to nickname her the "Great Demon". However, she only pushed them so hard because she cared for them and wanted them to reach their full potential. This was especially true for Marcia, whom Tanith saw as a potential future commander.

Tanith was first seen in "Chapter 13: A Guiding Wind" when she accompanied Sanaki's ship in the southern sea and was sent to meet with Elincia. But then reports rose that Sanaki had gone missing and their ship was under attack. Ike and his mercenaries then volunteered to help them fight off the bandits, and Tanith decided to hold off most of the raven laguz so Ike's group could focus on the beorc and land-bound laguz enemies. She then asked them to help find Sanaki, and they were eventually successful. Later on, Tanith and Sigrun watched over Elincia when Ike's mercenaries ventured into Serenes Forest in "Chapter 17: Dawn Breaks".

After Ike successfully proved his worth to Sanaki by helping to solve some of Begnion's social problems, Tanith was put in charge of the Begnion reinforcements sent to accompany Ike and the Crimean Liberation Army. Later on, after Elincia began fighting atop a pegasus knight, Tanith started subjecting her to training. Unlike most of Tanith's disciples, Elincia appreciated Tanith and her training exercises. After the war's end, Tanith returned to Begnion in order to report the war's outcome, but she left some of the troops she brought with her behind to aid in rebuilding Crimea. In the event of her death, Zelgius instead met with Ike.

Three years later, trouble was brewing in Begnion, and Sanaki seemingly shut herself out from her servants, not even allowing Tanith to see her. The true reason was that Sanaki had been locked in her tower by the corrupt senators so that they could take control of Begnion. But Sanaki eventually escaped, and the Holy Guard later found her and brought her to the camp of the Begnion Central Army at the end of "Chapter 10: The Heart of Crimea" in "Part 3: Intersecting Vows" where Sanaki attempted to expose the evil of the senate. Afterwards, Tanith and Sigrun joined up with the Laguz Alliance Army along with the other Holy Guards at the beginning of "Chapter 11: Just Cause".

Afterwards, Tanith was feared by her subordinates in the Holy Guard for her strictness and protected Sanaki for all of her life.

Support Conversation Summaries[edit]

In Path of Radiance, Tanith is capable of having Support conversations with three other characters.

  • Marcia- Marcia is horrified to find her former superior among their ranks. Tanith is furious with Marcia and plans to punish Marcia for deserting the Begnion knights. Marcia reminds her that she wrote a letter of resignation, and Tanith confirms that Sigrun was willing to let her go, but Tanith was not. In the next conversation, Tanith corners Marcia and forces her to tell her why she quit, and Marcia recounts her brother's story. Afterwards, Tanith feels sympathy but at the same time tells Marcia she is still a deserter and will still be punished. In the final conversation, Marcia tries in vain to convince Tanith to excuse her from her punishment, and then she asks Tanith why she is being so mean to her. Tanith confesses that she was always so hard on Marcia because she saw great potential in her and thought she could one day become commander of Begnion's holy knights. Tanith then decides to arrange for Marcia to return to Begnion's knights after the war, and she promised not to punish her for deserting if she returned. Marcia appreciates this.
  • Oscar- In the first conversation, Oscar returns a cloth Tanith had dropped to her and introduces himself to her, saying that he was honored to meet her. Tanith was surprised at Oscar's manners, as opposed to the traditional view of mercenaries as rude and vulgar. In the second conversation, Oscar talks about how impressive he considered the pegasus knights to be, although Tanith said he was over-romanticizing them. Afterwards, they converse about strategy, and Oscar says that he will help Tanith to convince the pegasus knights that it's acceptable to retreat sometimes. In the final conversation, Tanith calls Oscar full of surprises after finding out he is a cook on top of it all. Tanith admits that she is not good at cooking due to accidentally hurting others while preparing food. Oscar offers to teach her how to cook, and Tanith accepts.
  • Reyson- Tanith tells Reyson that Sanaki had told her to protect him, but Reyson refused to accept her aid. In the next conversation, Tanith tells Reyson that his reason battle tactics have been endangering his life and suggests that he stay off the battlefield and accept protection. But he once again refuses to have bodyguards and refuses to listen to anyone other than Ike, which greatly aggravates Tanith. In the final conversation, Tanith thanks Reyson for saving her life with his galdr the other day. She apologizes for not realizing his worth in battle and trying to keep him off the battlefield. Tanith started to plan returning to the empress for a dishonorable discharge, but Reyson was shocked by this and decided to appoint Tanith as his escort simply to stop her from making such a stupid move. He decides that they will both protect one another, and Tanith promises not to misjudge him again.

In Radiant Dawn, Tanith has an automatic Bond Support with Sigrun.

Trivia[edit]

  • Tanith can perform a Sword Triangle Attack in conjunction with Marcia and Elincia if certain conditions are met. Marcia must have promoted to a Falcon Knight prior to Chapter 28. Afterwards, the three must participate in the "Holy Knight" Base Conversation at the beginning of Chapter 28 to unlock the Triangle Attack. In Radiant Dawn, Tanith the Sword Triangle Attack can be done at any time after all the necessary characters are recruited, and it can be done with Sigrun in place of any of the three characters.
  • Unused Path of Radiance data indicates that at one point Tanith was intended to have support conversations with Astrid and Volke.
