Background[edit]

Reyson originally lived in Serenes Forest, home of the heron tribe and was the heron prince. He had several brothers and elder sisters, but he seemed to be closest to his younger sister, Leanne. During their youth, they were watched over by Naesala, the king of Kilvas. However, this peaceful existence came to a startling end when the herons were accused of assassinating the apostle, and an angry mob of beorcs from Begnion torched the forest. In the Serenes Forest Massacre, the entire heron race was believed to be wiped out, but Reyson and his father King Lorazieh survived. They wound up moving to Phoenicisis, where they lived in the home of King Tibarn. While his father spent all of his time bedridden, Reyson and Tibarn harbored deep resentment towards the beorcs and sought revenge. Initially he spoke only the heron language, but Reyson eventually mastered the modern language.

Path of Radiance[edit]

Twenty years later, Reyson was first seen in "Chapter 14: Training", when he attended a meeting of the laguz kings with Tibarn. He expressed his intents of revenge against the beorcs of Begnion, but Deghinsea disapproved of this. Then in "Chapter 15: The Feral Frontier", he paid a visit to Naesala in Kilvas in order to voice his disapproval of Naesala's provoking of Tibarn during the meeting. Naesala tried to convince Reyson that he was more trustworthy than Tibarn and then led him to to the ruins of the Serenes Forest. Reyson was horrified by how desolate and lifeless his home had become, but at the same time he came to call Naesala his friend again. Naesala immediately betrayed that friendship by luring Reyson into a trap and selling him as a slave to the corrupt Begnion senator, Oliver, who was obsessed with the nobles of Serenes.

Reyson was kept in a hidden room of Oliver's villa, where soldiers were posted to prevent his escape. However, Ike and his mercenary group arrived in "Chapter 16: The Atonement" to investigate Oliver's villa for laguz slaves. They discovered the hidden room with Reyson and came to rescue him after Oliver retreated. However, Reyson refused to accept aid from the beorc and fled to Serenes Forest. Both Ike's and Oliver's men entered the forest in search of him. Disgusted by the humans filling his forest, he sought to find the Serenes altar and use the forbidden magic there to destroy them all in "Chapter 17: Dawn Breaks". However, before he could reach the altar he was confronted by Tibarn and his vassals, Janaff and Ulki. Tibarn refused to allow Reyson to activate the forbidden magic because it would upset the balance inherent in the heron tribe and warp his very existence. Eventually Reyson was convinced to return to Phoenicisis so they could form a plan.

However, on their way out of the forest, they found Ike and his men in combat with Oliver's men, and saw that Ike was protecting another heron, while sacrificing his mobility to do so. So Tibarn and the hawks entered the battle to help Ike, and after the battle they saw that the heron was none other than Leanne, whom had been protected by the forest all those years. Begnion's apostle and empress, Sanaki, then presented herself before Reyson and got down on her knees to be forgiveness for what her people did to the herons. Reyson was unwilling to listen, but Leanne convinced him to forgive her. Reyson and Leanne were then able to sing the galdr of revival at the Serenes altar, and their seid magic combined restored the forest to its original, beautiful state. Reyson and Leanne then started towards Pheonicisis escorted by Tibarn, Janaff and Ulki, but Reyson instead convinced Tibarn that he wanted to repay Ike for his help by joining with the Crimean Liberation Army, which was under Ike's command, and aiding them in combat. Tibarn reluctantly allowed him to do so, and he also sent Janaff and Ulki with him. Tibarn told Reyson that he had deeply strengthened the bond between hawk and heron laguz, and so Reyson could call on him if needed him.

Reyson joined with the Crimean Liberation Army in "Chapter 18: Crimea Marches", as they began their campaign against Daein. He was reunited with Naesala in "Chapter 19: Entrusted", when Naesala led Daein forces in an attack on the Crimean army. Naesala confronted Reyson, but Reyson ignored him while Naesala attempted to apologize and claimed he had planned to rescue Reyson from Oliver if he hadn't escape. After a lengthy conversation, Reyson decided to forgive Naesala because, despite Naesala's betrayal, those events led him to be reunited with Leanne. But as a condition of his forgiveness, he made Nasesala withdraw his forces and vow not to come into battle against another laguz again. Naesala accepted these terms and gave Reyson a knight ring before retreating. Afterwards, in "Chapter 22: Solo", Reyson found out about the fate of his older sister Lillia in Palmeni Temple. He discovered that Ashnard had engineered the Serenes massacre in order to capture a heron and use it to release the dark god from Lehran's Medallion, but Reyson knew that only someone from Altina's bloodline could perform the galdr of release. He also found his past linked to Ike's, as Lillia had been captured and imprisoned in the temple by Ashnard, but Ike's mother Elena had helped her by fleeing with the medallion and knowledge of the galdr at Lillia's request.

Through this, Reyson learned that Ike and his sister Mist had possessed the medallion, but it had recently been stolen by Ashnard. Afterwards, the Crimean Liberation Army prepared to march into Crimea in order to defeat Ashnard. First, Reyson called in Tibarn to help by bringing in reinforcements. But he then learned that Leanne had been captured by Daein forces. However, they eventually found out where she was being held, and they embarked on a rescue mission in "Chapter 28: Twisted Tower". Naesala had actually rescued Leanne while Ike and the others were battling the tower's guards. With Leanne recued, the army then marched to Crimea's capital and successfully killed Ashnard. Following the battle, Leanne noted that Ashnard's steed, Rajaion, appeared to be a laguz that had been changed beyong recognition, and together they used the galdr of revival to restore him to his original form. Mist reclaimed the medallion but decided to pass it on to Reyson and Leanne, since it had belonged to their ancestors. Afterwards, Reyson and Leanne decided to take their father to live in a forest for a while. They were not ready to resume living in Serenes Forest yet, so they arranged with King Caineghis to inhabit a forest in Gallia. Before leaving he gave thanks to Ike, Mist and their parents for fulfilling the hopes of his sister (and invited Ike to visit him in Gallia if they had an A Rank Support together).

Radiant Dawn[edit]

Three years later, Reyson and Leanne were reunited with Rafiel, another of their surviving siblings. However, the reunion came with bad news as Rafiel revealed that it was actually the Begnion senators who engineered the Serenes Massacre. This caused Gallia, Phoenicis and Kilvas to band together as the Laguz Alliance and declare war with Begnion. During the war, Reyson, Leanne and Rafiel were left behind to watch over Lehran's Medallion and used their galdr to prevent the god within from being awakened by the warfare.

However, Reyson departed after hearing about Naesala's betrayal of the alliance and arrived at the Gallian camp in "Chapter 3: River Crossing" of "Part 3: Intersecting Vows". Afterwards, Reyson stayed at the Laguz Alliance camp because he did not want to let the hawk laguz down and wanted to fight alongside them. He began fighting alongside them in "Chapter 5: Retreat!". Reyson later passed out in "Chapter 11: Just Cause" and remained at Gallia with Rafiel. Afterwards they heard a mysterious voice from Daein and got permission from King Caineghis to leave with the army to investigate this, bringing the medallion with them (as Leanne had already went ahead with the army).

Reyson later fought alongside the Laguz Alliance Army in "Endgame: From Pain, Awakening". But while Reyson and Rafiel were both embroiled in battle, the chaotic energies of the medallion overwhelmed Leanne and knocked her out, and the goddess Yune was soon awakened. They learned that Yune wasn't as bad as she was supposed to be, but awakening her also awakened Ashera, who wanted to destroy the world in order to restart it. Yune split up the forces so that they could each individually make their way to Sienne to battle Ashera. At this time, Reyson was sent to travel with the Hawk Army for "Part 4: Of Gods and Men".

In "Chapter 2: Silent World", a vision from Yune guided Reyson to find a satori sign, which he was able to uncover early in the morning without Tibarn noticing. Reyson was energized by the energy of order that filled the world due to Ashera's presence. This allowed him to perform the galdr of rebirth by himself to restore Renning to his true self in "Chapter 5: Unforgivable Sin".

After the war ended, Sanaki decided to cede Serenes Forest to the herons. It was then decided that the hawks, ravens and herons would all live there in a unified bird nation, although Reyson and Tibarn argued about Reyson's mandate against hunting the animals in the forest for meat. Reyson worked hard as a leader in the new laguz nation, and it was mentioned that his iron resolve under a pretty face was suited for politics.

Support Conversation Summaries[edit]

In Path of Radiance, Reyson is capable of having Support conversations with three other characters.

  • Ike- In the first conversation, Ike checks up on Reyson and finds that he is fine except from the negative energy of the battles tiring him out. Ike offers him a special supper to boost his energy, but this leads Reyson to tell him a story of how he tried eating some of the food in Tibarn's diet in hopes of becoming powerful like him, only to become sick and bedridden for ten days. Reyson tells Ike about the despair he felt from a lack of power but is glad that he was able to live and see Leanne again, and finds he has great spiritual strength. In the second conversation, Ike sees how tired Reyson looks and asks if he has been pushing Reyson too hard. Reyson takes offense to this question and at one point threatens to punch him after Ike says he must be used to people fussing over him. Ike asks Reyson if he can even attack him, and Reyson mentions that he was able to punch Oliver but cracked the bones in the back of his hand at the same time, but assured Ike that it felt good. In the final conversation, Ike checks up on Reyson again, and Reyson says he is determined to participate in the final battles and confront Ashnard to discover the truth. Ike says he wants to help Reyson, and he seems to be offended at first until Ike elaborates that he needs Reyson's help in return, since they each possess unique powers and can reach future victories by combining these powers. Reyson appreciates this, and Ike warns him to hang in there because the end is near.
  • Tanith- Tanith tells Reyson that Sanaki had told her to protect him, but Reyson refused to accept her aid. In the next conversation, Tanith tells Reyson that his reason battle tactics have been endangering his life and suggests that he stay off the battlefield and accept protection. But he once again refuses to have bodyguards and refuses to listen to anyone other than Ike, which greatly aggravates Tanith. In the final conversation, Tanith thanks Reyson for saving her life with his galdr the other day. She apologizes for not realizing his worth in battle and trying to keep him off the battlefield. Tanith started to plan returning to the empress for a dishonorable discharge, but Reyson was shocked by this and decided to appoint Tanith as his escort simply to stop her from making such a stupid move. He decides that they will both protect one another, and Tanith promises not to misjudge him again.
  • Tormod- Tormod approaches Reyson and asks a favor of him involving his friends in the Grann Desert. Reyson notes having heard of the beorc leading the laguz emancipation army but expected Tormod to look different. Tormod decides to ask his favor later. In the next conversation, he asks Reyson to use the revival galdr to transform all of the Grann Desert's sand into soil so the laguz can live more easily there, but Reyson refuses and walks away. In the final conversation, Reyson explains to Tormod that the revival of Serenes Forest only happened due to certain circumstances, and he could not do the same for the desert even with Leanne's help. Tormod had hoped that the laguz could continue living in the desert after it was transformed so they would not have to face trouble from living alongside Begnion's beorcs. Reyson invites them to come to Serenes Forest, but Tormod decides to turn it down after hearing the Serenes customs which he knew the other laguz would not agree with, such as hunting and eating meat being forbidden.

Reyson also has Support bonuses with Tibarn, Naesala, Janaff and Ulki which boots his chances of delivering a critical hit when any one of them are nearby (and vice-versa). In Radiant Dawn, Reyson has automatic Bond Supports with the same four characters.

Trivia[edit]

  • Unused Support data in Path of Radiance indicates that Reyson was originally intended to also have support conversations with Ulki and Janaff.
