Tangrowth is a large vine-covered Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It was introduced as the new evolved form for Tangela, which previously had not evolutionary line.

Information

Tangrowth evolves from Tangela after it learns Ancientpower, which it learns at Level 33 in the fourth generation or Level 36 in the fourth generation. It uses its arms made of vines to ensnare prey, and it is not troubled by losing arms to predators. This is because Tangrowth's arms grow back when cut, as the arms are made out of plants that bind themselves to things. Tangrowth appears to be a large shrub when it is not moving, which lures in unassuming prey. Tangrowth's vines grow so profusely that their eyes are not visible during the warm season.

In most games, Tangrowth could only be obtained by evolving a Tangela. In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, it could be rarely found in rustling grass at Route 13 and outside the Giant Chasm's entrance.

Other Games

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, it could be recruited at Sky Stairway. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Ranger Schoo. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Sky Fortress, the Forest Temple and the Light Temple. In Pokémon Rumble, it was found at the Windy Prairie. Tangrowth also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Haunted Zone.

In Other Media

• In the anime, Tangrowth was featured in an episode of the Sinnoh series where one constantly used Absorb to drain energy from Pokémon in the forest, and Dawn's Mamoswine formed a grudge against it. They have also made other minor appearances.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Tangrowth was featured as one of Jupiter's Pokémon during the Diamond/Pearl arc.

Trivia

• Its name is simply a combination of "tangle" (due to its vines) with "growth" (due to its plant-like properties).
