Rhyperior is a massive horned rocky Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It was created as a new evolved form for the first generation Pokémon Rhydon, which retroactively makes it into the third and final form in Rhyhorn's evolutionary line.

Information[edit]

Rhyperior evolves from a Rhydon that has been traded while holding a Protector. Rhyperior is a muscular Pokémon with a carapace that can withstand volcanic explosions. It has a unique ability in that after it puts rocks in the holes in its pals, Rhyperior can tighten its muscles to fire these rocks out as projectile attacks. They will also rarely launch the rock-like Geodude.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

Rhyperior has not been found in the wild and can only be obtained by evolving a Rhydon.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Rhyperior could be recruited at the third through fourteenth basement floors of Dark Crater Pit and the fifth through eighth floors of Shimmer Desert, and a non-playable one was shown as a member of the legendary exploration team known as Team Raider. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, a Rhyperior belonging to Heath appeared as a boss during a mission in Altru Tower, which was the only time it could be captured. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it could be found at Rand's House. In Pokémon Rumble, it appeared at Rocky Cave. Rhyperior also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Lava Zone.

Other Appearances[edit]

In Other Media[edit]

  • Rhyperior have made several appearances in the Pokémon anime. One made a cameo in the opening of the ninth movie in the possession of Brendan. In the Sinnoh series and later episodes, Rhyperior have also been featured in the possession of Palmer and Brock's brother Forrest.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Rhyperior's existence was foreshadowed at the end of the FireRed/LeafGreen arc when it turns out that Giovanni's book speculated about Rhydon being able to evolve. Blue had read the book and offered to trade with Silver due to his skill at trading, but due to Sird turning them into stone, the trade was not completed until prior to the HeartGold/SoulSilver arc, at which point the Rhyperior was part of Silver's team.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "rhinoceros" (the animal that it resembles, and the same prefix used for the rest of the family) with "superior" (due to it being the superior form of the evolutionary line).
