Mamoswine is a powerful mammoth-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It acts as the new evolved form for the second generation Pokémon Piloswine, which retroactively makes Mamoswine into the third and final form of Swinub's evolutionary line.

Information[edit]

Mamoswine evolves from a Piloswine when it levels up and learns Ancientpower, which it can only learn through a Move Tutor or as an Egg Move. It is somewhat different from its earlier forms, as it is much larger and resembles a mammoth with only a few pig-like attributes. Mamoswine has tusks made of ice and flourished during the ice age. However, their populations have thinned in the years that the world warmed. A frozen Mamoswine dating back 10,000 years was discovered and awakened. The Mamoswine was astounded upon waking.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

Mamoswine is a rare Pokémon that could usually be obtained only through evolution. In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, wild Mamoswine have a rare chance of appearing in rustling grass at the Giant Chasm Crater.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Mamoswine could be recruited at Crevice Cave, Lower Crevice Cave and Mt. Avalanche. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Altru Building during a mission. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Rand's House. In Pokémon Rumble, it could be found at Rocky Cave. Mamoswine also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Iceberg Zone.

Other Appearances[edit]

In Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Dawn's Piloswine evolved into a Mamoswine during a battle with Team Rocket. It maintained the indifferent and disrespectful that it had developed late in its time as Piloswine. Mamoswine later developed a better attitude after Dawn tended to it after it was wounded by an Aggron, and it has been consistently shown as one of Dawn's strongest fighters.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Platina caught a Mamoswine while at Snowpoint City during the Diamond/Pearl arc. She gave it to Diamond because it reminded her of him. It has remained part of his regular team, and Diamond has even ridden on its back.

Trivia[edit]

  • Mamoswine is based on the wooly mammoth, an actual extinct animal. Its name is a combination of "mammoth" with "swine" (due to its pig-like features which are mostly a carryover from the previous forms).
