Merric is a playable unit in Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryuu to Hikari no Tsurugi as well as its remakes/sequels. He is the first playable mage in the game (and the series as a whole).
Background[edit]
Merric was raised in Altea and spent much time with Marth and Elice in his youth. However, he was known for being weak and often had to be nursed back to health by Elice. Merric developed a crush on her and sought to find a better way to protect her, so he moved to Khadein and attended the magic academy there. He spent much of his time studying magic there and learned personally under Wendell, who favored him enough to give him the Excalibur tome.
Book One[edit]
When Merric heard of the War of Darkness, he set out to search for Marth in order to aid his army. He met up with Marth at a village witin Aurelis in Chapter 4 and became part of his army. After Elice was rescued and joined their army, he told her of his intentions to protect her. She initially laughed because of how weak Merric had been in his youth, but assured him that he did not need to prove himself to her. Following the war's end, he returned to Khadein to continue his studies and buried his feelings for Elice.
Book Two[edit]
Three years later, Merric and his fellow pupil Ellerean were entrusted by Gotoh with the task of watching over Khadein. However, Ellerean was jealous of Merric and how Wendell had favored him enough to give him Excalibur, which led him to brand Merric a traitor and challenge him to battle in Chapter 10. He quickly joined with Marth's army and aided in the battle against Ellerean, who was possibly converted to their side by Wendell. Merric remained with Marth's army for the remainder of the War of Heroes, and during the final battle he was the only one who could awaken Elice from Gharnef's hypnotic control by talking to her, at which point she would simply plead with him to save them from Medeus.
Following Medeus's destruction and the war's end, he moved to Pales and taught sorcery at the magic academy that Elice founded there. It was unknown whether or not his feelings for Elice were ever requited; Elice was known to take a husband eventually, but it was not said who, although Merric being able to awaken Elice from the hypnotic control suggested a romantic connection between them.

- In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, he appears as a Novice-rank Support Spirit with the effect of strengthening Aura attacks. When fought in a Spirit battle, Merric's Spirit would possess Robin in a battle where his magical abilities were strengthened.
Trivia[edit]
- In Monshou no Nazo, he receives a Support Bonus from Elice, and in Shadow Dragon he received bonuses from her as well as Marth and Wendell.
