Background[edit]

Book One[edit]

Wendell was a peaceful but skilled bishop who acted as the pontifex of Khadein, the city of magic. He was also a mentor to the young mages Merric and Ellerean. When the War of Darkness broke out and Khadein was conquered by Gharnef, Wendel fled the city in order to avoid his rule. Before leaving, he saved the young Grustian heirs Yumina and Yubello from being held hostage in a dark room and sent them to a monastery in Khadein that could take care of them. After fleeing the county, Wendell took refuge in Aurelis. Despite being against war, he saw fighting as his only option and joined with Marth's army when they found him in Chapter 5 and either Marth or Merric talked to him. After the war ended, Wendell became a senior mage of Khadein. He embarked on a journey across various lands for truth (although this may actually be a cover for his mission in Book Two).

Book Two[edit]

Three years later, Wendell was carrying out a mission for Gotoh and was traveling across Archanea in search of the shards of the shattered Starsphere. Merric and Ellerean were left in charge of Khadein. Wendell was staying at Macedon when Lang tried to force him into helping to supress the rebellion at Grust, but he refused due to disliking the use of magic in battle, and so they arrested him and imprisoned him within Olbern Castle. Wendell was ultimately freed after Marth captured Olbern in Chapter 6 and told him about the mission from Gotoh. However, hearing of the plight of Marth's homeland of Altea, Wendell decided to put the mission aside for the moment in order to help Marth reclaim Altea, believing that Gotoh must have intended for it to turn out that way, and only suggested that they visit the Fane of Raman along the way to Altea.

When they eventually reached Khadein, they faced a new problem as Ellerean was in the process of turning evil and had betrayed Merric, being jealous that Wendell had given the Excalibur tome to Merric instead of himself, as Ellerean had been his student first. Wendell explained that this was because Ellerean did not have a caring heart and that he had previously wanted him to be a successor, but he did not want Ellerean to become like Gharnef. If he talked to Ellerean, he would convince him to join Marth's army and prevent his transition into a villain. After the war ended, he returned to his duties as pontifex of Khadein and worked tirelessly to restore it.
