Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis is the Nintendo DS sequel to the first Mario vs. Donkey Kong. The game furthers the Donkey Kong homage by including the long-absent character Pauline. But instead of Mario, the player controls the Mini-Mario toys.

Story

While Mario and Pauline are showing off the Mini-Marios at the Super Mini Mario World grand opening, Donkey Kong falls in love with Pauline and offers her a Mini-Donkey Kong toy at the same time that Mario was presenting her with a Mini-Mario toy. After Pauline chooses the Mini-Mario toy and rubs it against her face, Donkey Kong's lust turns to rage. He captured Pauline and takes her to the roof of Super Mini Mario World. The door is sealed shut before Mario can enter, but he is able to send in the Mini-Marios to act in his place.

Gameplay

The gameplay works significantly different than its predecessor. This time the players direct and control the Mini-Marios using the Stylus. In effect the gameplay takes on a more Lemmings-like gameplay, or perhaps a better comparison, Mario & Wario which never saw American shores.

Legacy

It was followed by Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!, which was released as DSiWare. The next installment to be released as a DS game was Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!.
