New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the Wii successor to New Super Mario Bros., which has a focus on cooperative multiplayer play.

Story[edit]

Bowser and his Koopalings (including Bowser Jr.) have launched their latest scheme to capture Princess Peach. They send her an abnormally large cake, but the Koopalings are hidden within and immediately capture Peach before escaping to their airships. Mario and Luigi naturally set out to rescue her, this time being accompanied by two Toads. Other Toads help by firing the new Propeller Suit and Penguin Suit power-ups out of cannons, scattering them along the heroes' path.

Gameplay[edit]

The game follows the basic gameplay of New Super Mario Bros. by focusing on classic 2-D Mario side-scrolling. Many of the twists on the traditional gameplay come from the game's new multiplayer features. Up to four players can play, with the second player being Luigi and the latter two controlling the two Toads. It is possible for players to pick each other up, throw each other and revive each other by hitting special bubbles. The Ice Flower (from Super Mario Galaxy) as well as the new Propeller Suit and Penguin Suit power-ups appear in multiple quantities throughout the game, and Yoshis have been integrated into gameplay as well. The players will also compete in who can gain the most coins and other such challenges.

The Koopalings are featured as bosses, making it the first game to feature Bowser Jr. with the rest of the Koopalings. It is also the first game to feature a Super Guide, which is exclusive to the single-player mode, in which the game will show the player how to beat a level if they die enough times.
