Xatu is a tall and dignified psychic bird Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. It is Natu's evolved form.

Information[edit]

It evolves from Natu at Level 25. Xatu is much taller than Natu, and its body appears to be adorned with tribal markings. It also has large wings, which make it capable of flying. They have powerful psychic abilities and are able to see into both the past and the future. Xatu stand in one spot all day long, usually staring into the Sun, while doing this. It has been revered as a mystical Pokémon by some because of this.

In South America, Xatu is specifically said to see the past with its left eye and the future with its right eye. Other cultures believe that Xatu are emissaries from another world.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In most cases, Xatu could only be obtained by evolving a Natu. In Pokémon: Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions a Xatu could be received by trading a Haunter to a trainer at Pewter City. In Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, Xatu was rarely found at the Safari Zone.

Other Games[edit]

It was obtained through evolution in Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Secret Storage 5 and Mr. Who's Den. It could recruited in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams as an evolved Natu, but a non-playable Xatu also played an important storyline role in the game. He was a prophet residing at the Hill of the Ancients who gave storyline information to the player's group and also made them a Teleport gem.

In Explorers of Time and Darkness, Xatu could be recruited at the first seven basement floors of Spacial Rift, and a non-playable Xatu ran a shop called Xatu's Appraisal at Treasure Town. Xatu also appeared in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs at Daybreak Ruins and Thunder Temple.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime series, Xatu was first featured in an episode of the Johto series where a woman named Calista used three Xatu to predict the weather for a town. The Xatu foretold a big flood coming in the episode, which resulted in the town's evacuation, and they were also able to teleport Calista as well as Ash's group to safety after beating Team Rocket as the flood neared. An episode of the Sinnoh series also featured a woman coincidentally named Calista, whose future self owned a Xatu as her primary Pokémon.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Xatu was initially shown as one of Will's Pokémon, and he was implied to have had it since his childhood, when it was a Natu. Crystal's Natu also evolved into a Xatu by the Emerald arc.

Trivia[edit]

  • Xatu's name may be a play on the name of the Aztec god Atu, and the "x" may come from "exotic".
