Spoink is a small spring-tailed pig-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. Its evolved form is Grumpig.

Information

Spoink has a spring-like tail which it is always bouncing around on. The shock of its bouncing makes its heart pump; because of this, it is said that the Spoink will die if it ever stops bouncing. Spoink even bounce while sleeping. It can manipulate psychokinetic power at will, and its powers are amplified by the Clamperl's pearl on its head. They are always searching for larger pearls. It also loves to eat mushrooms that grow underground.

It can evolve into Grumpig at Level 32.

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, it could be found somewhat commonly at the Jagged Pass. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, it could appear at Route 214 during swarms. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could appear at Ilex Forest and Viridian Forest if the Hoenn Sound was playing on the radio.

Other Games

In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it could be hatched from an egg, and a Spoink also acted as the spring launching the ball on the table. In Pokémon Trozei!, Spoink was found at Secret Storage 15, Endless Level 36, Forever Level 21 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the first eight floors of Howling Forest and the first five floors of Solar Cave. In Pokémon Ranger, Spoink was found at Kisara Plains. In Explorers of Time and Darkness, it could be recruited at Marine Resort, and the player's team had to retrieve a non-playable Spoink's pearl from the Drenched Bluff.

• In the Pokémon anime, a Spoink appeared in two episodes of the Hoenn series. In both instances, it had lost a pearl and needed the help of Ash's group to retrieve it. Ash also used a Spoink for part of the Pokémon Triathlon in an episode of the SInnoh series.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Tate and Liza each had their own Spoink which they used to train Ruby and Sapphire in double battling at Mirage Island near the end of the Ruby/Sapphire arc.

Trivia

• Its name is a combination of "spring" (due to its spring-like tail) with "oink" (which is word for a pig call).
