Spinda is a small, spotted panda-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games and has no evolutionary line.

Information[edit]

Spinda are Pokémon that have unique spot patterns along their bodies. No two Spinda have the same pattern, and the chances of this happening are less than one in four billion. They usually move around as if they are stumbling dizzily, and their tottering motions usually throw off the aim of their foes. Spinda's lurching movements usually resemble dancing.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Spinda could be commonly found at Route 113. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum Versions, it appeared somewhat commonly at Route 227 during swarms. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could appear at Sprout Tower, the Burned Tower and Bell Tower if Hoenn Sound was playing over the radio, and they could also appear in the Desert area if enough Plains objects were present.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, Spinda had to be hatched from an egg to be obtained. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Secret Storage 14, Endless Level 4, Trozei Battle and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the fifth through seventh floors of Joyous Tower, and a non-playable Spinda eventually appeared at Pokémon Square which triggered the quest for the Mirage Pokémon. The Spinda gives the player a Clear Wing after giving up its own journey, and after being shown the Rainbow Wing obtained at the end of the journey, the Spinda would be pleased and depart. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Spinda could be recruited at Marine Resort and Lost Wilderness, and a non-playable Spinda also ran a cafe.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • Spinda was featured in an episode of the Pokémon anime during the Hoenn series, in which a trainer named Claire was seeking her missing Spinda, which had a special heart pattern. A running gag involved Brock only finding Spinda that had broken heart patterns. They were able to retrieve the Spinda by the episode's end.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Spinda appeared during the Ruby/Sapphire arc as one of Norman's Pokémon. Norman primarily used it when he was training Wally.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a play on "panda" combined with "spin".
  • Spinda was programmed with over four billion variations of its spot pattern (hence the statistic referred to in its HeartGold/SoulSilver Pokédex entry), and a Spinda's spot pattern is determined by its personality value. There are also twice as many variations if Shiny forms are counted.
