Skarmory is a metallic bird Pokémon introduced in the second generation games, which has no evolutionary line.

Information[edit]

Skarmory resembles a bird covered in hard, protective armor. It has sturdy wings that look heavy, but are actually hollow and light, allowing it to fly freely in the sky. Their feathers are very sharp, and people are said to have used shed feathers of a Skarmory as swords. Skarmory itself uses its wings to slash at enemies and can fly at a speed of 180-190 miles per hour. Their steel wings become tattered and bashed in from various battles, but their wings grow back completely once a year, which restores its wings' to the maximum sharpness.

They nest in bramble bushes, where the wings of baby Skarmory grow hard from being scratched by thorns.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Silver, Crystal and SoulSilver, Skarmory could be rarely found at Route 45. In Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, Skarmory can be rarely found at Route 113. In FireRed, it could be rarely found at Sevault Canyon.

In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, it could be rarely found at Stark Mountain and Route 227.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Colosseum, a Shadow Skarmory could be snagged from Snagem Head Gonzap at Realgam Tower, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, Skarmory could be found at the Volcano on the Ruby Field, and in Pokémon Trozei! it appeared at Secret Storage 5, Trozei Battle and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, Skarmory was the first boss and held a Diglett captive atop Mt. Steel, being very territorial but fleeing after being defeated. Recruitable Skarmory could be found at fortieth through forty-ninth floors of Western Cave and the eighteenth and nineteenth floors of Wish Cave.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Skarmory appeared in the Chasm Cave, Zero Isle West and Zero Isle areas, but could not be recruited due to those locations being visited in the future. The only way to get Skarmory in these games is through a Wonder Mail mission. In Pokémon Ranger, Skarmory is found at Kisara Plains, and in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it appears at the Chroma Highlands. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it was found at the Sky and Thunder Temple.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In the Super Smash Bros. series, Skarmory initially made a cameo appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, where it appeared in the background of the Pokémon Stadium 2 stage when it was set to the Flying terrain. That appearance remained the same with the stage's reappearances in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Skarmory has also been represented by a trophy in Brawl and a Novice-rank Primary Spirit (which came with a weakness to electricity) in Ultimate. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Skarmory's Spirit would possess a metallic version of Falco Lombardi, and it would have to be defeated in a stamina battle.

Other Media[edit]

  • Skarmory has appeared in various episodes of the Pokémon anime, starting with a Johto episode where a trainer was trying to use his Skarmory against fire-types. Later appearances included a Skarmory that kidnapped May, as well as an episode where Skarmory was shown as part of Winona's roster whom she allowed others to ride. An adaptation of the early part of Mystery Dungeon also showed the Skarmory boss, although it kidnapped Pikachu and Pichu instead of Diglett in this version. It was also part of Barry's team during the Sinnoh series.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Gold helped Falkner to catch a Skarmory in the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc, which he later used to become a gym leader. Other Skarmory to appear include Winona's in the Ruby/Sapphire arc and Carr's during the FireRed/LeafGreen arc.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "sky" and "armory".
