Porygon is an artificial Pokémon introduced in the first generation of the Pokémon series. It originally did not have an evolutionary line until it was discovered to evolve into Porygon2 in the second generation games, and then from that into Porygon-Z in the fourth generation games.

Information[edit]

Porygon are the first artificial Pokémon to be created, being the product of years of research and advanced technologies. Scientists anticipate being able to use it to explore outer space. It does have the ability to travel into cyber space and survive in virtually any environment, since it is really a program with a physical form. Porygon are not capable of anything that is not programmed into its code. It is also copy-protected to prevent it from being duplicated when in program form. Porygon also has a neutral gender, but can reproduce when paired with a Ditto.

Porygon are rather expensive; a single Porygon costs between 5555 and 9999 coins. Porygon evolves into Porygon2 when traded with an Upgrade attached. It also has an additional glitchy evolution, Porygon-Z, which is reached when trading Porygon2 with a Dubious Disc attached.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, LeafGreen, Silver', Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions, Porygon can only be obtained by trading in coins at the Celadon City Game Corner. Porygon is worth 5555 coins in Crystal, 6500 coins in Green, Blue and LeafGreen, and 9999 coins in all other games.

In Diamond and Pearl, Porygon can also be found in the Trophy Garden of the Mt. Coronet Mansion on certain days when there is a random chance that Mr. Backlot will claim that Porygon are in his garden, which will lead his butler to place them there for the next two days. In Platinum Porygon is received as a gift from a man in Veilstone City. In White, Porygon was found in the White Forest.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Pinball, Porygon can be caught in Celadon City. Porygon also appears in the River area of Pokémon Snap, where it is camouflaged and must be hit with a Pester Ball before it reveals itself. Porygon also appears in Pokémon Stadium, Pokémon Stadium 2 (where it is used by Lieutenant Surge), Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness. Porygon can be found in Secret Storage 1, Huge Storage 5 and Mr. Who's Den in Pokémon Trozei!. In the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team, Porygon can be found in the Buried Relic while in Blue Rescue Team it can be rescued in a mission at Thunderwave Cave that is unlocked through a Wonder Mail code.

A camouflaged Porygon can also be found in the Dusk Factory of Pokémon Ranger. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Porygon is found in the third through ninth basement levels of the Deep Spacial Rift. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, two non-playable Porygon working for Primal Dialga appeared at the end of the Spacial Cliffs in the In the Future of Darkness episode, and they teleported Grovyle and Dusknoir to Frozen Island. In Pokémon Rumble, it is found in Rumble Tower.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In the Super Smash Bros. series, Porygon first appeared in Super Smash Bros. as one of the Pokémon that will randomly appear from the Silph Co. elevator in the Saffron City level, and it would later reappear with the stage in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It attacks simply by popping out of the elevator door swiftly. A balloon of Porygon also appears in the Poké Floats level of Super Smash Bros. Melee. In Ultimate, Porygon also appears as a Novice-rank Primary Spirit. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Porygon's Spirit would possess Little Mac (in his wireframe costume) and fight alongside the Assist Trophy of Akira Yuki (who has a polygonal appearance).

Other Media[edit]

  • Porygon has only ever made one appearance in the Pokémon anime. This episode caused 685 epileptic seizures. The episode was subsequently banned in all regions, and Porygon2 has never been seen in the anime. The name of the episode is Electric Soldier Porygon.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Blue obtains a Porygon in Celadon City, and it becomes a member of his main team. It eventually evolves into Porygon2 in time for the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a play on a combination of "polygon" and "origami".
