Garchomp is a powerful, flying shark-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It is the third and final form in Gible's evolutionary line. Garchomp is also known as the signature Pokémon of Cynthia.

Information[edit]

Garchomp evolves from Gabite at Level 48. It looks like a jet plane when it folds up its body and extends its wings, and it even flies at sonic speed like a jet fighter plane. Garchomp's body is also covered in scales that reduce drag, which renders it capable of flying at such high speeds. Garchomp never allow their prey to escape. When a Garchomp flies at full speed, its wings create blades of wind that slice through nearby trees.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

Garchomp has not been found in the wild and can only be obtained through evolution.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Garchomp could be recruited at Shimmer Desert. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Hippowdon Temple. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it could be caught at Rand's House (temporarily) and at the Dark Temple. In Pokémon Rumble, it was found at the Rocky Cave. Garchomp also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Granite Zone.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In the Super Smash Bros. series, Garchomp made a cameo appearance in the Kalos Pokémon League stage seen in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which consisted of appearing in the background when the stage was in its Dragonmark Chamber form. It has also been represented by a trophy in the Wii U game and an Advanced-rank Primary Spirit in Ultimate. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Garchomp's Spirit would possess a blue Charizard that would receive boosts to its attack power and move speed.

In Other Media[edit]

  • In the anime, Cynthia's Garchomp appeared in several episodes of the Sinnoh series, and it has taken down various Pokémon belonging to members of the Elite Four and Team Galactic. Other Garchomp have also made occasional appearances.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Cynthia's Garchomp was featured as her main Pokémon during the Diamond/Pearl arc. However, it lost in battle with Cyrus after it was weakened by its own Draco Meteor attack, which Cynthia was not used to.

Trivia[edit]

  • Garchomp's name is a play on "chomp" and possibly is a play on the name of "garpike", a type of fish.
