Bosses[edit]

Oracle of Seasons[edit]

  • Aquamentus
    • Aquamentus is a one-horned dragon that is the boss of the Gnarled Root Dungeon. It will try charging at Link and also spits out trios of fireballs. To defeat Aquamentus, Link simply had to continually swipe at Aquamentus's horn with his sword while dodging the dragon's attacks.
  • Dodongo
    • The Dodongo is a horned dinosaur which acts as the boss of Snake's Remains. The Dodongo attacks Link a room containing a small field of spikes by trying to ram him and spitting fireballs. Link has to throw a bomb into its mouth when it prepares a fireball. This inflates and stuns the Dodongo, at which point Link can lift the lizard using the Power Bracelet and toss it into the spikes. Repeating this several more times leads to the Dodongo's destruction.
  • Mothula
    • This moth-like monster is the boss of the Poison Moth's Lair. The fight is set in a room with various gaps that would cause Link to have to restart the battle if he falls through. Mothula flies around the room while spitting out fireballs and releasing smaller moths to attack Link. It is up to Link to use Roc's Feather to dodge its attacks and then attack it with his sword when it comes to a stop. This will eventually defeat Mothula.
  • Gohma
    • Gohma shown as a crustacean creature and acts as the boss for the Dancing Dragon Dungeon. Gohma's weak point is its eye, which Link has to strike using his slingshot to damage it. Gohma has a larger claw that it will use to protect its eye and attempt to grab Link. Link can destroy the claw by attacking it with his sword. If so, the Gohma compensates by releasing small larvae that will attack Link and latch onto him to slow him down. Enough arrows to the eye will destroy the Gohma.
  • Digdogger
    • Digdogger is a large, one-eyed sea urchin-like creature that acts as the boss of the Unicorn's Cave. It jumps around and tries to attack Link. Link has to fight it by using the Magnetic Gloves to hit it with a giant spiked ball. Enough hits will cause the Digdogger to divide into six smaller Digdoggers. Each of these smaller Digdoggers can be destroyed with a single hit from the spiked ball or multiple hits with other weapons. These Digdoggers will eventually reform into the full-sized Digdogger, but the destroyed smaller Digdoggers remain destroyed the next time the Digdogger splits. All of the smaller Digdoggers can eventually be destroyed, putting the Digdogger to rest.
  • Manhandla
    • The Manhandla is the boss of the Ancient Ruins. Unlike traditional depictions, the Manhandla's body is shown to resemble a giant version of the Buzz Blob. It still has the usual four mouths attached to its body which spit fireballs. Manhandla is battled in a room that contains shifting sand. Link first has to use the Magical Boomerang to destroy each of the mouths, although the mouths are only vulnerable when open. After all the mouths are destroyed, it begins moving around at a faster pace, and Link must use the Magical Boomerang to wear away at its body until it splits in half, revealing a red core. Link then has to destroy the core with a sword stroke, ending the monster.
  • Gleeok
    • A two-headed Gleeok is the boss of the Explorer's Crypt. The heads spit fireballs at Link, and Link must simply attack their heads. After one head is severed, it will float aorund the room to try and attack Link. After the second is destroyed, its skin comes off to reveal its living skeleton. The Gleeok skeleton jumps to cause stunning tremors and attempts to charge at Link. Link can avoid being stunned by using the Roc's Cape and continue attacking it with his sword until it is completely destroyed.
  • Medusa Head
    • The boss of the Sword & Shield Maze is, as the name suggests, a giant Medusa Head. It teleoprts around and launches fireballs and lasers. She also lives up to her namesake by releasing a circle of blue energy speheres that can turn temporarily turn Link into stone. Hitting her with Pegasus Seeds launched from the Hypr Slingshot will stun the Medusa Head, at which point Link can attack with the sword. This continues until it is destroyed.
  • Onox
    • The final boss who is faced at Onox's Castle. During the first phase of the battle, he uses a ball and chain as his weapon. He is most notable for his defense in his phase, as he can only be damaged by the Master Sword or a spin attack from the Noble Sword. He eventually begins using Din's crystal as a sword, and Link will receive an electrical shock if he hits it. After Onox is hit enough times, they fall down into the basement where the second phase begins.
      • Dark Dragon: Onox transforms into his true form, which is that of a giant dragon. This battle notably takes place in a sidescrolling plnae. Onox spits fireballs and tries to crush Link with its hands. However, Link can hitch a ride on the back of Onox's hand and then leap up to attack the ruby on Onox's head, which was his weak point. This could be repeated until Onox was destroyed.

Oracle of Ages[edit]

  • Pumpkin Head
    • The boss of the Spirit's Grave is a small red ghost inhabiting the form of a robed figure with a pumpkin head. He attacks by shooting fireballs and jumping around. Link first has to attack the body with his sword until it vanishes, leaving behind the pumpkin head. Lifting the pumpkin reveals the ghost, which can be damaged with sword attacks or by tossing its own pumpkin head at it. The ghost will try to return to the Pumpkin Head, but it will eventually be destroyed.
  • Head Twomp
    • The boss of the Wing Dungeon is a giant Thwomp that constantly rotates between four different faces. It is fought in a sidescrolling area, and it has an opening on its head into which bombs can be thrown. Once a bomb is tossed into its body, the Head Thwomp will stop and produce a different effect depending on which face it stops on. The smug-looking blue face launches fireballs, the teeth-gritting green face launches larger fireballs, the unhappy purple face will drop down and cause a tremor that drops boulders from the ceiling, and the shocked red face will cause damage to itself. Link must toss bombs so that the red face is effected four times in a row, which will destroy it.
  • Shadow Hag
    • The Shadow Hag is a shadowy witch who acts as the boss of the Moonlight Grotto and refers to herself as your own shadow. She goes into a shadowy form to hide herself and can split into four shadows which all attempt to pursue Link. The Shadow Hag will also try to charge at Link in her full form and can summon moth-like creatures to attack Link. The Shadow Hag's weakness is scent seeds, but she will withdraw whenever Link looks at her. The only way to damage the Shadow Hag is by firing the Seed Shooter so that the scent seeds bounce off of the wall and hit the Shadow Hag. This leads to her destruction.
  • Eyesoar
    • The Eyesoar is a winged eye creature that acts as the boss of the Skull Dungeon. It has four eyes flying around it as protection. Link has to destroy several of the eyes to open a gap and then use the Switch Hook on Eyesoar's actual body. This causes Link and the Eyesoar to switch places, disorienting it, and Link can then attack him with his sword. Repeating this process destroys the Eyesoar.
  • Smog
    • Smog is a cloud-like creature that appears as the boss of the Crown Dungeon. This battle is more like a puzzle than an actual fight, and Smog refers to it as "a little game", as it splits around into smaller Smogs that travel around their own patterns in the room. Link has to use the Cane of Somaria to create blocks and upset the mini-Smogs' patterns so that they will bump into each other, merging back into Smog. Smog can then be damaged by a sword stroke. As the battle continues, Smog splits into more pieces, and the room becomes more complicated. After several stages of the puzzle, Smog is finished off.
  • Octogon
    • The boss of the Mermaid's Cave is Octogon, a shelled fish creature. Octogon initially swims along the surce of the water and spits out projectiles at Link. It has a hole on the top of its head which is its weak point, and Link can only hit this hole with his sword when Octogon is facing away from him. At some points in the battle, Octogon dives underwater, at whcih point Link can pursue it underwater wearing the Mermaid Suit. Link can continue attacking Octogon with his sword there. Hitting it enough above and underwater will destroy it.
  • Plasmarine
    • Plasmarine is a squid-like creature that acts as the boss for Jabu-Jabu's Belly. It attacks with powerful balls of electricity. Link must use the Switch Hook on Plasmarine to make them switch places, which causes Plasmarine to be hit by its own attack, damaging it. Plasmarine's color (and the color of its electricity) switches between blue and red whenever it is hit. Plasmarine can also directly produce electricity from its body which will hurt Link if he gets too close. Once it is hit enough, Plasmarine will explode.
  • Ramrock
    • Ramrock is a large stone head accompanied by a pair of stone fists that serves as the boss for the Ancient Tomb. In the first phase of its battle, Ramrock continually launches its fists fists at Link, but he can use his sword to deflect the fists back at Ramrock and damage him. After several fits, its hands are switched to spiked hands which it tries to grab Link with. Link's goal is to plant a bomb between the hands before they close, which damaged Ramrock. In the next phase, its hands are replaced by a pair of shields that it uses to protect itself from projectile attacks, and it also fires balls of energy. To hit Ramrock like this, Link must fire seeds from the Seed Shooter so that they bounce off of the back wall to hit Ramrock's unprotected backside. In the final phase, its new hands are a pair of ball-and-chains that it tosses at Link. After a ball is tossed out, Link can use the Power Gauntlet to pull it back far enough and then release it so that the ball flies back into Ramrock's face. After Ramrock is hit enough, it will be destroyed.
  • Veran
    • Veran is the final boss of Ages who is faced at the top of the Black Tower in several phases. In the initial phase, it is in Queen Ambi's body and attacks with magic. Link first must fire Mystery Seeds through the Seed Shooter to make Veran's spirit peek out. Link then can use the Switch Hook to switch places with Veran, at which point he can attack her with his sword. This eventually exorcises her from Ambi's body, at which point the true battle with Veran begins.
      • Fairy-like form: Veran transforms to resemble a type of green fairy. She shoots out various fireballs as her main attack. At the same time, Veran creates four Dark Links that walk around the room, mimicking Link's movements. The Dark Links disappear when this form is defeated.
      • FInal form: In the final phase of the battle, Veran shifts between three forms: a beetle, a bumblebee and a spider. In her beetle-like form, she will jump around the room (corrupting the floor where she lands) and can only be hit when she peeks her face out. In the spider form, she charges at Link, tries to stomp on Link and also shoots out webs. Link has to stun this form with a bomb before he can attack it with his sword. In bee form, Veran flies around the room and launches various stingers at Link. This form is vulnerable to sword attacks at all times. Veran transitions between all three forms at random until she is damaged enoough to be destroyed.

Linked Game[edit]

These bosses are fought only at the end of a linked game.

  • Twinrova
    • This battle is a re-inactment of the boss fight from Ocarina of Time. In the first phase, Twinrova attacks as the twin witches Koume and Kotake. They attack using fire and ice magic, respectively. Damaging them is a simple manner of using the sword to knock one witch's magic blast at the other's, as Koume and Kotake are weak against each other's magic. They then fuse together into Twinrova. She initially switches between a fire and ice side during her attack, and the room alters itself to matc her by becoming filled with lava or ice. Link can damage Twinrova by using, depending on the game, Scent Seeds fired from the Hyper Slingshot or Mystery Seeds fired from the Seed Shooter. Twinrova will eventually reveal her fire and ice sides at once, and soon after this she will be defeated.
  • Ganon
    • Ganon teleports around the room while trying to attack Link with his trident, stomping the ground before launching a large ball of magic or firing smaller magical projectile attacks. He is powerful enough that Link can only damage him by using the Master Sword or spin attacks with the Noble Sword. Ganon will also transform the room later on, which alters Link's movement. With enough attacks, he is defeated.

Mini-Bosses[edit]

Oracle of Seasons[edit]

  • Goriya Brothers
    • The Goriya Brothers are a pir of Goriyas (one blue and one red) that appear together as the mini-boss of the Gnarled Root Dungeon. Between the both of them, they have just a single boomerang which they toss back and forth between each other to try and hit Link. They can both be attacked normally, and one is defeated the survivor will automatically be destroyed as well.
  • Facade
    • Facade is a mini-boss recycled from a Link's Awakening boss. He takes on the form of a face in the ground, and he attacks by making holes in the ground as well as by tossing tiles and pots at Link. Facade is defeated simply by planting bombs on his face. Facade acts as the mini-boss for the Snake's Remains and reappears at Onox's Castle outside Onox's throne room.
  • Calamareye
    • Calamareye is a trio of squids who appear as the mini-boss for the Poison Mouth's Lair. Each one of them protrudes from a shallow pool of water in the room, and the tops of their heads open like jaws when they shoot fireballs. • Aganhim
    • A cloaked wizard who appears to be Aganhim is the mini-boss in the Dancing Dragon Dungeon. He attacks with bolts of magic and creates two illusions of himself to confuse Link. The real Aganhim is distinguished in that only he has a shadow. He can be defeated normally with sword attacks.
  • Syger
    • Syger is a long-toothed tiger that appears as the boss of the Unicorn's Cave. It can curl into a spiked ball and roll around in an attempt to hurt Link. Its weak point is a red orb on its tail. Hitting its tail enough times will destroy it.
    • Poe Sisters
    • A pair of Poe sisters (named Margaret and Amy in the Japanese versions) act as minibosses for the Explorer's Crypt. The first one wields a lantern that leaves behind a trail of fire, while the other sister wields a sword that she attacks with. They can be defeated through normal means, but the torches in the room slowly extinguish during the battles, and Link will be forced back to the dungeon's entrance if he does not beat them in time. The Poe sisters are first engaged in individual battles, and later in the dungeon Link has to fight both of them at once.
  • Frypolar
    • Frypolar is a flame creature that acts as the mini-boss for the Sword & Shield Maze. It has a red fire form and a blue ice forms that it alternates between. The ice form summons icicles, while the flame form creates fire rings. Hitting Frypolar with a Mystery Seed will change it to its ice form, at which point it is vulnerable to Ember Seeds. Alternately, Link can life the icicles and use them to attack Frypolar in its fire form. Either of these methods will eventually destroy Frypolar.

Oracle of Ages[edit]

  • Giant Ghini
    • The Giant Ghini is a large ghost that acts as the mini-boss for the Spirit's Grave. It charges at Link while three smaller ghosts try to hold him down. The Giant Ghini can eventually be defeated by sword attacks.
  • Swoop
    • Swoop is a demonic creature that is the mini-boss of the Wing Dungeon. It has a giant pair of ears which it flaps like wings to fly around. As it flies, Swoop often drop down and smashes holes in the floor. It can be attacked with the sword whenever it gets close enough to the ground.
  • Subterror
    • The Subterror is a blue, mole-like monster that appears in Moonlt Grotto. It tunnels around underground will try to spear Link with its drill-like nose when he gets close. Link can use the shovel to dig the Subterror out of the ground, at which point it can be attacked with the sword.
  • Armos Warrior
    • The Armos Warrior is an armored figure with a giant shield that appears in the Skull Dungeon. It also throws a sword that follows Link around the room. Link must coordinate his path so that the sword winds up flying back into the Armos Warrior. After being hit by its own sword three times, the sword and shield will both shatter. The warrior than tries charging at Link repeatedly. Dodging the Armos Warrior's attack will cause it to slam into the wall and stun itself, at which point it was vulnerable to Link's attacks. It was eventually defeated through this process.
  • Smasher
    • The Smasher (another recycled Link's Awakening mini-boss) is a mouse-like creature that appears at the Crown Dungeon and tries to crush Link by throwing around a heavy ball. Link can fight it by throwing the ball back at it with the Power Bracelet until it is down.
  • Possessed Nayru
    • The possessed version of Nayru can be battled at Queen Ambi's Palace after completing the Mermaid's Cave. She tries to blast Link with balls of dark magic. Her weakness is Mystery Seeds, as if Link fires one at her from the Seed Shooter, Veran will temporarily detach from Nayru's body. Link can then use the Switch Hook to pull Veran away from Nayru's body and leave her disoriented, at which point Link can openly attack her. After being hit enough times, Veran will retreat.
  • Angler Fish
    • A chubby blue Angler Fish is the mini-boss of the Jabu-Jabu's Belly. It is battled in a side-scrolling area in a cave. The Angler Fish flops around on the ground and spits various bubbles at Link. Link has to use the Seed Shooter to pop its stomach, at which point it will temporarily deflate and fall lifelessly to the floor. Link can then hack away at the fish until it re-inflates itself or is destroyed.
  • Blue Stalfos
  • As its name suggests, this enemy is a blue Stalfos. He wears a cloak and scythe (evoking the classic image of Death) and appears in the Ancient Tomb. It only directly attacks with the scythe if the enemy gets too close. Otherwise, it usually charges up and then launches a beam that has one of two effects. One will simply split into a circle of smaller balls of energy after being hit, while the other will temporarily turn Link into a baby if it hits him. This latter beam can be reflected back at the Blue Stalfos using the sword, and it will transform it into a type of skull with bat wings (implying that this is the Stalfos's infant form). Link can attack this form with his sword until it turns back into a Blue Stalfos or is destroyed,

Shared[edit]

These mini-bosses appear in both games and will recognize Link when encountered in a linked game.

  • Great Moblin
    • The Great Moblin resides in Moblin Keep, which is located at Rolling Ridge in Oracle of Ages and at the Great Moblin's Realm (near the Sunken City) in Seasons. In both fights, he attacked from above a wall by tossing bombs (Bomb Flowers specifically in Ages) at Link. Link had to grab the bombs and toss them back at the Great Moblin repeatedly, although sometimes the Great Moblin would catch the bomb and throw it back. In Seasons, the Great Mobine was alone but moved around along the wall, which made him a moving target. In Ages, the Great Moblin was stationary, but there were two other Moblins nearby who also tossed bombs. The Great Moblin is optional in Seasons and only must be battled during Ages.
  • Vire
    • Vire is a demonic creature that starts off as a servant of Onox or Veran, depending on the game. He is a mini-boss at at the Mermaid's Cave in Ages and at the Ancient Ruins in Seasons. He initally tries to fly directly at Link, but after being hit several times, he tries to keep his distance and while spitting red and blue fireballs at Link. Once Link manages to be hit several more times, he says goodbye and splits into two bats. Destroying them causes Vire's defeat. The battle is made somewhat harder in Ages by the room having spikes lining the walls. Vire survives the battle in the first game, but he will be actually destroyed at the end of al linked battle.

Minor Enemies[edit]
