Debut The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Oracle of Seasons

Din is a supporting character featured in the game The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons. She is the Oracle of Seasons, who poses as a dancer.

Background[edit]

Oracle of Seasons[edit]

As the Oracle of Seasons in Holodrum, Din had power over nature. To hide herself from enemies, she posed as a dancer. Eventually when Princess Zelda detected a threat to the Oracle, Din received protection by traveling with a troupe of performers who were actually Hyrulian knights in disguise, with Impa among their ranks.

Things began to change when the young Link was found unconscious after being teleported to Holodrum. Din helped him to recover and was said to have become smitten with him. She also noted the Triforce mark on his hand as the symbol of someone with a great destiny. She willingly danced with him, but she was interrupted when General Onox arrived and captured her. He whisked her away to his castle and trapped her within a crystal while sinking the Temple of Seasons into the earth in order to fill all of Holodrum with chaos and decay due to rapidly shifting and uncontrollable weather.

Eventually, Link was able to make his way to the castle with the eight Essences of Nature as well as the Rod of Seasons. Onox initially used Din's crystal as a shield in battle, but Link could use the Rod to knock the crystal away and attack Onox. After Onox was destroyed, Din was able to restore order to Holodrum's weather. In an unlinked game she told Link that he had become a true hero and a new trial awaited him but that the oracles would still watch him and ensure that darkness is kept from the hearts of mankind. In a linked game, Din and Nayru combined their powers to take Link to his final battles with Twinrova and Ganon.

The Minish Cap[edit]

In The Minish Cap, Din appeared with Nayru and Farore as lodgers looking for a home in Hyrule Castle Town. Over the course of the game, Link could show them to a house to move into, but only two houses were available in the game, so one of the girls was left without a home at the game's end. If Link gave Din a home, she would give him a charm whenever he had an empty bottle to hold it. Her charm temporarily turned Link's tunic red and boosted his defense when used.

Her figurine description said that she was a famous dancer from Holodrum. As Nayru's description mentioned her being descended from a line of oracles in Labrynna, it would appear that the implication is that the Din appearing in The Minish Cap is the ancestor of the Din appearing in Oracle of Seasons.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Din appears as an Advanced-rank Support Spirit with the effect of reducing damage caused by lava floors. When fought in a Spirit battle, Din's Spirit would possess two Zelda duplicates who specialized in using the Din's Fire move and fought on a floor of lava.

Other Media[edit]

  • Din appears in the manga adaptation of Oracle of Seasons, where Link travels with the troupe for several chapters. Din is shown as more flirtatious and coarse in her language, such as in her teasing of Impa. Her role mostly follows the role in the game, although she does not reappear in the following Oracle of Ages adaptation.
