Omanyte is a fossil Pokémon introduced in the first generation Pokémon games.

Information

Omanyte is a prehistoric Pokémon that has been extinct and resembles a type of snail creature. Despite being extinct, contemporary technology has allowed an Omanyte to be revived from a Helix Fossil. Living primarily in the sea, they had ten tentacles which they used to swim, and also used the air stored in their shells to rise and sink in the water. At signs of an attack, an Omanyte withdraws itself within its shell.

At Level 40, Omanyte evolves into Omastar.

Appearances

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed and LeafGreen, the player can receive their choice of either a Helix or Dome (which revives Kabuto) Fossil at Mt. Moon after defeating the Super Nerd that discovered them. Omanyte could then be revived from the Helix Fossil later in the game at the laboratory on Cinnabar Island.

In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, both Helix and Dome Fossils could randomly found while excavating in the Underground after unlocking the National Pokédex, with Helix Fossils being more commonly found in Diamond than in Pearl. The fossils could be revived by an eccentric worker at the Oreburgh City Museum.

Helix Fossils could also be found in HeartGold and SoulSilver, where they could be randomly found while smashing rocks. This time they could be revived at the Pewter City Museum.

Other Games

In Pokémon Stadium, Omanyte was among the random rare Pokémon that could be given as a prize for completing the Gym Leaders Castle. This Omanyte could be transferred to any of the color versions for the Gameboy. In Pokémon Pinball, Omanyte could be rarely found at Cinnabar Island on the Red table.

In Pokémon Trozei!, they could be found at Secret Storage 9, Endless Level 9, Forever Level 9 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, Omanyte could be found in the first nine flights of Stormy Sea, the first nine flights of Silver Trench, the first nine flights of Far-off Sea, the first nine basement floors of Marvelous Sea and the first nine basement floors of Fantasy Strait. In Explorers of Time and Darkness, they were found on the first seven basement floors of Brine Cave and the forty-eight basement floors of the Final Maze

In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, Omanyte were found at the Sea of Wailord. In Pokémon Rumble, they appeared at the Bright Beach.

Other Appearances

Other Media

  • Omanyte have made a few appearances throughout the Pokémon anime, first being shown with the other first generation fossil Pokémon in an episode based around them. A later episode had a living Omanyte and Omastar discovered at the Ruins of Alph, and they wound up being sheltered in a museum after Ash and his friends protected them from Team Rocket.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Misty was shown to own an Omanyte that she later gave to Yellow as a gift. It later evolved into an Omastar.

Trivia

  • Omanyte's name is rearrange from "ammonite", which is the real-life extinct species that it is based on.
