Omastar is an extinct shelled Pokémon that was introduced in the first generation games. It is the evolved form of Omanyte.

Information[edit]

Omastar evolves from Omanyte at Level 40. Its mouth was ringed by sharp beaks, and it had tentacles which it used to ensnare prey. Omastar does not let go after grabbing prey and will usually bite into them instantly. Its tentacles were as well-developed as hands and feet. They were said to crack Shellder's shell with their sharp fangs and sucked out the insides.

It became extinct because of its heavy shell, which weighed it down and made it nearly impossible to catch food that was not within their immediate vicinity.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

Omastar can only be obtained by evolving an Omanyte.

Other Games[edit]

Omastar can only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Pinball, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness. Two unrecruitable Omastar and a Kabutops also appeared as the boss of the Brine Cave in Explorers. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Secret Storage 9 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, they were found at the Sea of Wailord. Omastar also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at Bright Beach.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Omastar initially appeared in one Indigo League series episode in which it and a variety of other prehistoric Pokémon were awakened from their slumber in an underground chamber. One episode of the Johto series also showed Omanyte and Omastar living under the Ruins of Alph, and they ultimately wound up in a museum.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Yellow's Omanyte evolved into an Omastar near the end of the Yellow arc, and it had remained as one of her main Pokémon.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "ammonite" (the shelled creature it was based on) and possibly "omugai" (the Japanese name for the nautilus, a similar prehistoric animal that is still living) with "star" (referring to the shape of its blue body).
