Venomoth is the moth-like evolved form of Venonat that was introduced in the first generation games.

Information[edit]

Venomoth evolves from Venonat at Level 31. Its wings are covered in powdery, dustlike scales that are hard to remove and color-coded to indicate the kinds of poison it kinds, with said poison leaking out on contact. This powder is poisonous if dark or causes paralysis if light. It usually attacks by flapping its wings violently to scatter its poisonous powder all around.

It is actually a nocturnal Pokémon. Its primary prey are insects that are attracted to bright streetlights in the darkness.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Red and Blue Versions, Venomoth is uncommonly found at the Safari Zone, Victory Road and Cerulean Cave. In Yellow, it is more rarely found at Routes 14 and 15 as well as Cerulean Cave. In FireRed and LeafGreen, it can only be found at the Safari Zone and Berry Forest.

In Gold, Silver, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Venomoth could be caught on Routes 24 and 25 only at night. In Crystal, they were still nocturnal but instead appeared at Routes 9, 10, 13, 14, 15 and 43.

In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, Venomoth could appear on Route 229 when the Poké Radar was used.

Other Games[edit]

Venomoth could be obtained in Pokémon Pinball only by evolving Venonat. In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, a Shadow Venomoth could be snagged from Cipher Peon Agnic at Cipher Key Lair. Once purified, this Venomoth could be traded to any of the third generation Pokémon color versions. Venomoth also appeared in Pokémon Trozei!, where it could be found at Secret Storage 1, Huge Storage 4, Endless Level 57 and Mr. Who's Den.

It could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, but in Explorers of Time and Darkess it appeared at the eighth through fourteenth floors of Mt. Horn, the first twelve basement floors of Landslide Cave and the first nineteen floors of Mt. Mistral. Venomoth also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at the Silent Forest.

Other Appearances[edit]

In Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Koga's Venonat evolved into a Venomoth during his battle with Ash. It only briefly fought his Pidgeotto, however, due to Team Rocket interfering. Various other Venomoth have also made appearances throughout the series, such as one that was used by Ash's opponent in the Ever Grande Conference, Katie, which Ash's Swellow was able to defeat. Jessie of Team Rocket also dressed up like Venomoth in one episode in a failed attempt to lure in Bug-type Pokémon.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, one early chapter showed Blue defeating a wild Venomoth but not catching it due to already having one. In later chapters, Sabrina was shown to have her own Venomoth that she used in her battle against Lorelei.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "venom" and "moth".
