Staravia is a speedy bird-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It is the middle form of Starly's evolutionary line and evolves into Staraptor.

Information

Staravia evolves from Starly at Level 14. Like its previous form, it stays within a large flock due to recognizing its own weaknesses. However, scuffles for territory often break out between different flocks when they meet. A Staravia cries loudly when alone. They usually live in forests and fields, where they fly around in search of bug Pokémon to feed on.

It evolves into Staraptor at Level 34.

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Diamond, Pearl and Platinum Versions, Staravia could be commonly or uncommonly found at Routes 209, 210, 212 and 215, the Trophy Garden, Valor Lakefront, Lake Valor and Sendoff Spring, being rarer at night. In Diamond and Pearl, they also were found at the Great Marsh and could also rarely appear at Lake Verity when an Emerald cartridge was in the GBA slot.

Other Games

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, it could only be recruited at the Final Maze. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Peril Cliffs. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at the Sky and the Thunder Temple. Staravia was also among the Pokémon that could be received during random trades with Hayley in My Pokémon Ranch, and it could then be transferred to Diamond or Pearl (as well as Platinum in Japan). In Pokémon Rumble, it was found at Windy Prairie. Staravia also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Beach Zone and the Iceberg Zone.

• In the Pokémon anime, Ash's Starly evolved into a Staravia early in the Sinnoh series when fighting off Team Rocket. Learning the Aerial Ace move helped to solidify it as a solid flying-type, and it was also often used for searches as well as some of the gym battles. Much later in the series, Staravia was able to win a PokéRinger competition and evolved into a Staraptor in the process. Other Staravia have also made smaller appearances.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Staravia was only prominently shown during the Diamond/Pearl arc during a two-part chapter in which Team Galactic grunts tried attacking Diamond, Pearl and Platina with large numbers of Staravia and Skuntank, although the three heroes were able to fend them off with help from the two bodyguards.

Trivia

• Its name is a combination of "starly" (the type of bird which the evolutionary line is inspired by) and "avian" (which refers to birds in general).
