Prinplup is a self-important penguin-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It is the middle form of Piplup's evolutionary line and evolves into Empoleon.

Information[edit]

Prinplup evolves from Piplup at Level 16. Each Prinplup winds up leading a solitary life due to each one considering itself to be the most important, which results in them being unable to work in groups. Prinplup is still a powerful Pokémon that is capable of snapping even the thickest of trees with blows from their wings. Prinplup usually search for prey in icy seas.

It evolves into Empoleon at Level 36.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

Prinplup has not been found in the wild and can only be obtained through evolution.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Prinplup could be recruited at Crevice Cave, Lower Crevice Cave and Mt. Avalanche. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Hia Valley. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Mt. Sorbet. It was also found in Pokémon Rumble at Bright Beach. Prinplup also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Iceberg Zone, where it guarded the Chairlift.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Kenny was shown to own a Prinplup in several episodes of the Sinnoh series which evolved from his Piplup. It disliked Dawn's Piplup until it wound up saving the Prinplup's life, and Dawn's Piplup later defeated Kenny's Prinplup during a Pokémon Contest. Kenny's Prinplup evolved into Empoleon at some time prior to the Grand Festival.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga's Diamond/Pearl arc, Platina's Piplup evolved into a Prinplup at the same time that Diamond's Turtwig and Pearl's Chimchar evolved while the three were training together for Platina's second gym challenge at Eterna City. Prinplup's new Blizzard attack was useful for Platina's gym battle against Gardenia, and she also used it for her first Pokémon Contest. It eventually evolved into Empoleon while fighting members of Team Galactic at the Veilstone Department Store.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name seems to be a combination of "prince" and "plup" (which represents the sound of something splashing in the water).
