The Pols Voice is a recurring enemy within the The Legend of Zelda series.

Information[edit]

A Pols Voice is a type of ghost with a body that resembles the upper half of a rabbit's head with a eyes, whiskers and a pair of large ears. They usually cannot be defeated through normal means, but their weakness is tied into the effect that loud noises have on their sensitive ears. Tones of musical instruments could instantly destroy them in some games. Otherwise, these tough enemies could only be beaten by arrows or bombs depending on the game. In some cases, they are still vulnerable to sword strikes.

In its original appearance, the Pols Voice was made to be destroyed by utilizing the Famicom's built-in microphone, but this was only available in Japan. This was referenced in Phantom Hourglass, where the Pols Voice was only vulnerable when stunned by making sound in the Nintendo DS's built-in mic. This version of the Pols Voice is more monstrous and is shown to have a mouth hidden on its underside which it tries to consume Link with.

Appearances[edit]

The Pols Voice originally appeared in The Legend of Zelda, Link's Awakening, Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages. In all of these games, Pols Voices were found in several dungeons.

It later appeared in Phantom Hourglass, where it was only found at the Temple of Courage.

Trivia[edit]

  • The Bunny Hood appears to be a reference to the Pols Voice (which has yet to appear in the 3-D games), complete with the Running Man saying the mask's ears could help one "hear the voices".
