Debut The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

The Bunny Hood is an item that has appeared in several games of the The Legend of Zelda series and is also known for its recurring appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series.

Information[edit]

The Bunny Hood is a good worn on one's head that is designed with a pair of bunny eyes and two long bunny ears. During its first appearance in Ocarina of Time, it appeared to be an ordinary mask, with its only special effect being that it kept Stalchidren from rising at night. In Majora's Mask and its Super Smash Bros. appearances, it instead grants its wearer enhanced speed, agility and jumping ability while it is worn.

In Ocarina of Time, it was among the masks that were lent to Link by the Happy Mask Salesman for the purpose of selling it, and it was the final mask that he had to sell. The mask could be sold to the Running Man, who claimed that the hood had "genuine rabbit ears from the animal of legend". Although the Bunny Hood was worth only 50 Rupees, the Running Man would pay Link the maximum amount of Rupees that he could carry at the time for it.

In Majora's Mask, the Bunny Hood could be given to Link by Grog. Grog had been depressed about the possibility of the world ending before his Cucco chicks grew up, and Link could use the Bremen Mask to make them all grow up quickly. Feeling content with that, Grog would then give Link the Bunny Hood out of gratitude.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • The Bunny Hood has appeared as an item in every game of the Super Smash Bros. series, starting in Super Smash Bros. Melee. As in Majora's Mask, wearing it will temporarily boost a character's speed, agility and jumping height, but it will eventually wear off and disappear. Its appearance is accompanied by a trophy in Melee, Brawl and the 3DS/Wii U game.
  • In Hyrule Warriors, the Bunny Hood appears as an alternate costume for Zelda, which was initially made available as part of a Majora's Mask DLC pack.

Trivia[edit]

  • The hood notably resembles the recurring enemy known as the Pols Voice. This seems to be referenced by the Running Man when he says that he believes that the hood's ears can "hear the voices".
  • In Majora's Mask, wearing the Bunny Hood will also make a timer appear during the Postman's minigame where he makes the player count to ten seconds. This makes it easier to get the timing right. Notably, the Postman is the Terminan counterpart of the Running Man.
  • The Bunny Hood also makes a cameo appearance in The Wind Waker, where it is hanging behind the counter of the Nintendo Gallery, near several other masks from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.
