Pinsir is a beetle-like Pokémon that was introduced in the first generation games and has no evolutionary line.

Information[edit]

Pinsir is an astoundingly strong Pokémon that can use the pincer-like horns on its head to easily grip and lift a Pokémon twice its size into the air. These horns are covered in thorns which dig into the foe's body when the pincer closes, making it difficult for the foe to escape. They keep their prey between the horns until it is torn in half. If it fails to crush a victim, Pinsir will swing it around and toss it hard.

They usually live in warm places, as they are rendered sluggish by cold temperatures. Pinsir hides deep within forests during cold periods. When the temperature drops at night, it is known to sleep on treetops or to burrow underground with its horns to sleep, with damp soil clamping to it in the morning.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Blue, Yellow and LeafGreen, Pinsir rarely appeared at the Safari Zone and was available as a prize at the Celadon City Game Corner for 2500 coins (6500 in Yellow). In Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Pinsir was rarely found at the National Park during the Bug-Catching Contest.

In Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, it was found at the Safari Zone. It appeared at Route 229 in Pearl and Platinum, being rare in Pearl and appearing commonly during swarms in Platinum. In Black and White, they were rarely found at Route 12.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Pinball, it could be caught at Celadon City and Safari Zone. In Pokémon Stadium 2, it was featured in the Clear-Cut Challenge minigame where the players controlled Pinsir or Scyther competing in cutting through logs. A Shadow Pinsir could be snagged from Cipher Peon Grupel at Citadark Island, and after being purified it could be transferred to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it was found at Safari Zone on the Ruby Field.

In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Endless Level 43, Endless Level 58, Forever 17 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, Pinsir could be recruited at the seventh through eighth floors of Mt. Steel, the twenty-first through twenty-eighth floors of Western Cave and the ninth through eleventh floors of Joyous Tower. In Explorers of Time and Darkness, it was recruited at the seventh through eleventh floors of Foggy Forest. Pinsir appeared in Pokémon Ranger at Dusk Factory. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Peril Cliffs. It also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at Silent Forest.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In the Super Smash Bros. series, Pinsir initially made a cameo appearance among a group of Pokémon seen in the introduction sequence for Super Smash Bros. Melee. It later appeared in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an Advanced-rank Primary Spirit. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Pinsir's Spirit would possess Ridley, with a focus on a strengthened version of the Space Pirate Rush attack. The Beetle item would also commonly appear in the battle.

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Pinsir was shown in an early episode as the main Pokémon of a rival trainer known as Samurai. During an episode of the Johto series, Pinsir were driven into Heracross territory of a forest due to Team Rocket taking the sap from their trees. Pinsir has also made a variety of minor appearances belonging to other trainers and in the wild.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, a wild Pinsir initially appeared in one chapter of the Red/Blue/Green arc where it was able to defeat Red's Pikachu due to Pikachu being unaided by fake items.

Trivia[edit]
