Munna is a dream-eating Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games. It is important within Pokémon: Black and White Versions due to its mist, which allows a connection to the Dream World. Its evolved form is Musharna.

Information

Munna is Pokémon that is a floating pink Pokémon that has natural floral pattern. They eat the dreams of people and Pokémon. People whose dreams are eaten by Munna will forget what their dreams are about. When one eats a particularly pleasant dream, it emits a pink mist. This dream mist has several uses within Black/White, as Fennel uses it for her C-Gear and to access the Pokémon Dream World through the game sync feature.

Team Plasma also tried stealing dream mist from a Munna at the Dreamyard by abusing it, in hopes of using the dream mist to manipulate Pokémon's hearts for their own purposes, but Hilbert/Hilda was able to stop them. Bianca also sought and eventually obtained Munna from the Dreamyard that a Team Plasma grunt mugged from her at Castelia City, although Ghetsis returned it without a fight when confronted by Burgh and Isis with Hilbert/Hilda and Bianca.

Munna evolves into Musharna when exposed to a Moon Stone.

Other Games

In Pokémon Rumble Blast, Munna was found at the tower of the Challenger's Ground. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, it appeared at the Crag Area's Colosseum once it was retrieved from the Wish Park, and it could be befriended by giving it ten Aroma Candles.

• In the Pokémon anime, a Munna has appeared in several episodes as one of Fennel's Pokémon. She initially used it to track a missing Musharna and then help to save it from Team Rocket. Other Munna have made minor appearances.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Munna is featured as one of Black's main Pokémon in the Black/White arc. As he is constantly preoccupied by his dreams of becoming the Pokémon League's champion, Black often attaches Munna to his head to help him focus and show him hidden answers to problems. In flashback, it was shown that Munna met Black when he was five, attracted by his dreams, and it was the second Pokémon he caught, although it previously helped him independently to catch his first Pokémon, a Rufflet.

Trivia

• Munna's name seems to be a combination of "moon" and "luna", likely due to the association with nighttime and dreams, as well as the Pokémon evolving via Moon Stone.
• Munna seems to be inspired by the Baku, a tapir-like spirit from Japanese mythology known for eating dreams and nightmares. Drowzee and Hypno were also previously inspired by the Baku.
• Its existence is foreshadowed (possibly unintentionally) by a trainer named Picnicker Carol who appears on Route 10 in the first generation games (and their third generation remakes), as she wishes that there was a pink Pokémon with a floral pattern. There was also a scientist in Hoenn in the third generation who mentioned research on Pokémon dreams.
