Debut Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance

Mia is a playable unit in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and its sequel, Radiant Dawn. She was an ambitious and energetic mercenary.

Background[edit]

Mia was a mercenary who was skilled with a sword. She constantly sought out powerful opponents to test her mettle against, and particularly looked for her one true foe. Mia also wanted to prove that women could wield swords as well. Mia eventually worked as a mercenary. In Path of Radiance, Mia was hired to fight alongside Crimea's dwindling forced during the war with Daein. She was captured by Daein forces, but Greil saved her before she could be sent to a prison camp.

While trying to seek safety from Daein's forces, she stumbled upon the same fort where Greil's son Ike was leading the Greil Mercenaries in battle with Daein forces in "Chapter 7: Shades of Evil". Mia helped them to fight off the Daein soldiers, and after talking to Ike she decided to join with the mercenaries and help them fight off the enemies. She was impressed by Ike's willpower and decided to remain with the mercenaries for the remainder of the war. As the war progressed, Mia became further impressed by Ike's sword-fighting style. This led her to remain a member of the Greil Mercenaries after the war ended so she could train under Ike.

Three years later, she returned from hiding with the rest of the Greil Mercenaries to save Lucia from being hanged at the end of "Part 2: Of Countries and Kings". She was seen fighting off soldiers during the accompanied animated cutscene and jokingly commenting about Soren getting lost in his books. With the rest of the mercenaries she became part of the Laguz Alliance Army in "Part 3: Intersecting Vows". She challenged Ike to another sparring match in the "Challenging" base conversation of "Chapter 1: Of Laguz and Beorc". Ike warned her that he would not hold back, but Mia was excited by this and also brought in Rhys as a precaution so that she could heal her the moment she was hurt.

After the war ended, she left the mercenaries and traveled across Tellius in search of new opponents. However, she did occasionally return to Greil's Retreat to rest.

Support Conversation Summaries[edit]

In Path of Radiance, Mia is capable of having Support conversations with three other characters.

  • Ilyana- In the first conversation, Ilyana catches Mia by surprise. After initially trying to battle Ilyana, Mia then notes that Ilyana looks weak and frail, and decided to keep an eye on her. In the next conversation, Mia questions Ilyana rigorously about her state of health and decides to follow her to continue looking after her. In the final conversation, Mia accidentally steps on Ilyana when Ilyana is lying hungry on the ground. Ilyana attempts to eat Mia's foot, which causes Mia to panic and shout out for someone to bring her food.
  • Largo- Mia confronts Largo and compliments him for his muscles, then challenges him for battle. Largo suggests she do something more domestic then fighting with a sword because he wanted people to be more practical. But Mia misunderstands this as gender bias and leaps at Largo in battle. In the next conversation, Largo is bruised from battle with Mia and begs for Mia to leave him be, but Mia once again misunderstands this as sexism and attacks him. In the final conversation, Mia is impressed by the fight Largo put up, and he asks her why she pushes herself so hard. Mia says she has been fighting to prove that women could wield swords and had something to prove, and whenever she lost she blamed her skill and not her gender, and she would train harder to win next time. Largo then understands Mia's brutal beating of him and says he will train harder and then spar with her again.
  • Rhys- Mia runs into Rhys and gives him a weapon to battle her with. However, she is disappointed to find that Rhys has no idea how to use a sword. Mia says that a fortune teller had told her that she'd meet her one true foe and that he'd be wearing white robes. Rhys offers to hold the sword up and let her hit it a few times if it makes her feel any better, but Mia decides to give up so she doesn't hurt Rhys. In the second conversation, Mia asks Rhys if he wants to train with her, telling him that he has the potential to become a legendary swordsman and her one true foe. In the third conversation, Mia's training of Rhys comes to a halt when he is gripped by cramps and fever. Mia is about to give up on the fortune teller's prophecy when she remembers an overlooked detail about her fortune, which led her to believe that her one true foe was a mounted unit. She then begins pressuring Rhys to take horse-riding lessons and fight alongside her. This time she instead called Rhys the man of her destiny, much to his confusion.

Trivia[edit]

  • Unused Path of Radiance data indicates that at one point Mia was intended to also have support conversations with Marcia and Nephenee.
