Matthis is a playable unit appearing in Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryuu to Hikari no Tsurugi, Monshou no Nazo and Shadow Dragon.
Background[edit]
Matthis and Lena were born into a powerful noble family of Macedon. Their mother was a court bishop in Grust's royal court, and after her death Lena went to live with their grandfather at Grust, only to ultimately flee Macedon after Michalis tried to marry her. It seems Matthis remained in Macedon and watched as it got worse and worse. He hated Michalis and thought of him as a barbarian prince, but he was ultimately drafted into the Macedon army.
Book One[edit]
In Chapter 4, he was among the Macedonian soldiers invading Aurelis. However, Lena could talk to him and convince him to switch over to Marth's Altean army, with Matthis agreeing due to preferring death as one of the dashing over death as one of the dastardly. He would also embarass her by asking her if she found her true love and warning her not to let a thief steal her heart, which was ironic considering her relationship with Julian. Marth could alternately recruit him, with Matthis being somewhat uneasy around him due to thinking that he was a barbarian prince like Michalis. After the war ended, Matthis left the army and lived a dull and predictable life in Macedon, which he considered to be bliss.
Book Two[edit]
Three years later, Matthis was forced to join the rebel forces in Macedon. However, Julian could recruit him to Marth's army by talking to him in Chapter 3. Julian was annoyed that Matthis always teased him, saying that he wasn't even really that close to Lena, which caused Matthis to change his mind about Julian and switch sides, at which point he decided to call Julian "little brother". After the war ended, Matthis returned to his casual life of work in Macedon.
