Lickitung is a Pokémon known for its prehensile tongue and was introduced in the first generation games. Originally it was not connected to any evolutionary line, but in the fourth generation it was discovered to evolve into Lickilicky.

Information[edit]

Lickitung has a chameleonesque tongue that spans almost seven feet, and it can move it more freely than its forelegs. The tongue leaves a tickling sensation when licking others and may cause paralysis. Lickitung's tongue can be manipulated so deftly due to being covered in well-developed nerves. The tongue is also slathered in a gooey saliva that sticks to anything. It uses its long tongue to lick its body clean.

It identifies new things by licking them, as it memorizes things by texture and taste. Lickitung are put off by sour things. Because a Lickitung's tail quivers when its tongue is extended, it is believed the the tongue is connected to the tail. Lickitung evolves into Lickilicky when it levels up after learning Rollout, which it learns at Level 33.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Red, Blue, FireRed and LeafGreen, a Lickitung can only be obtained by trading a Slowbro (or Golduck in FireRed) to a trainer at Route 18. In Yellow, they rarely appear at Cerulean Cave.

In Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, they were uncommonly found at Route 44. In Crystal, they were more common but appeared only during daytime. In HeartGold/SoulSilver, Lickitung also was found at the Safari Zone's Forest and Mountain areas.

In Diamond and Pearl, they appeared at Lake Valor in swarms, while in Platinum they were uncommonly found at Route 215. In Black and White, they rarely appeared at Challenger's Cave.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Pinball, it could be caught at Cycling Road. In Pokémon Stadium, Lickitung was featured in the Sushi-Go-Round minigame in which each player controlled one of four Lickitung that competed in eating as many Japanese dishes as possible. In Pokémon Channel, they appeared at Cobalt Coast on clear mornings. In Pokémon Trozei!, they were found at Secret Storage 15, Trozei Battle and Mr. Who's Den.

Lickitung could be recruited at the thirty-seventh through forty-forth floors of Western Cave in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, it could be recruited at the first nineteen basement floors of Marine Resort and the first seventeen basement floors of Lost Wilderness. It is also among the Pokémon available in random trades with Hailey in My Pokémon Ranch, from which it could be transferred to Diamond/Pearl (and Platinum in Japan). Lickitung also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at Windy Prairie.

Video Games[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Jessie of Team Rocket obtained one late in the Indigo League series and used it in a princess festival competition against Misty. It wound up losing to Misty's Psyduck. Lickitung was used irregularly afterwards until one Johto era episode in which she accidentally traded it for a Wobbuffet.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Lickitung was shown during the Gold/Silver arc as one of the Pokémon Gold had at his house, and a group of Lickitung were later shown being attracted by the Sweet Scent of Crystal's Bayleef. One chapter of the Diamond/Pearl arc also involved Diamond trying to retrieve his map from a Lickitung. The Lickitung evolved into a Lickilicky during his (eventually successful) attempt to catch it.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of plays on "lick" and "tongue".
