The Kikwi are a small race of timid woodland creatures that were featured in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

Information

Kikwis are small, furry creatures that have bearks and dark fur on their backs with white fur on their stomachs. A The Kikwi also has plant-like elements on its body, as it has a curled green growth atop its head, and in place of a tail, a Kikwi will have some type of structure that resembles a bush. This helps the Kikiwi to hide itself, as it can simply crouch over near other bushes to camouflage itself. This method mostly walks for the common small Kikiwis and becomes comically impractical when attempted by a large Kikwi. Kikwis have also been known to hide valuables in their back structures. This species is known to be herbivorous and timid.

In Skyward Sword, it was shown that Kikwis were among the five races that helped the goddess Hylia in the war on Demise. In the present time, they lived within the Faron Woods and consisted of four Kikwis as well as their giant leader Bucha. They were forced into hiding by the arrival of monsters in the forest. Zelda briefly meet with them while en route to Skyview Temple. When Link arrived, Bucha feigned forgetting bout Zelda's location in order to motivate Link into finding and checking up on the other Kikwis for him. Once Link was successful, Bucha decided to give Link the slingshot, which was considered to be a precious Kikwi heirloom. Link just had to retrieve it from the structure on Bucha's back. The Kikwis were able to gather safely at another part of the forest.

At later points in the game, an elderly Kikwi hermit named Yerbal was found to be living near the top of the Great Tree, and Link could also take the Kikwi Oolo up to Skyloft to be studied by Owlan as a sidequest. The Kikwis found refuge on lilypads when the Water Dragon Faron flooded the forest. Despite the inconvenience, they did see the advantage in that Faron's flood was washing the monsters away. Once the water receded, the Kikwis were able to live openly and peacefully within the forest with the Bokoblins and Moblins gone. Bucha did come to miss the water, as he considered it to be a change of scenery.

• Their name is a play on "kiwi", in reference to the bird and possibly the fruit as well.
