The Grappling Hook is a weapon that has appeared in several Zelda games.

Information[edit]

It is a simple item consisting of a long rope with a hook at the end, and it has a variety of uses. The hook is primarily used to latch onto branches and other similar overhanging posts. The user then can climb up the rop and/or swing with it to reach distant ledges. The hook can also be used in combat, where it can damage some enemies and take items from them. Grappling hooks are also compatible with boats, where they can be used like cranes to haul up treasure within the ocean. It has several extra functions in Phantom Hourglass, where the rope could be spread between posts in the ground to form tightropes that Link can walk on, or the rope could be used to launch Link across gaps like a slingshot.

This item is associated with the Rito tribe. They used to use grappling hooks to travel around their home at Dragon Roost Island before they grew their wings.

Appearances[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, the grappling hook was given to Link by Medli at Dragon Roost Cavern. In Phantom Hourglass, it was found in the Temple of Ice.

Trivia[edit]

  • At first glance, it appears to be a substitute item for the hookshot, but both items appeared in The Wind Waker. This role of replacing the hookshot was only fulfilled in Phantom Hourglass.
