Granbull is an intimidating purple bulldog-like Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. It is the evolved form of Snubbull.

Information[edit]

Granbull evolves from Snubbull at Level 23. It is known for its particularly well-developed lower jaw. Because of the weight of its enormous fangs, Granbull most often tilt its head back or down for balance. Granbull's bite is powerful, but is careful not to bit indiscriminately unless startled. In most cases, Granbull can scare other Pokémon away just by flashing its fangs. Like Snubbull, in spite of its appearance Granbull is actually timid and easily spooked. They usually flail about in order to fend off attackers.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In most cases, Granbull cannot be found in the wild and can only be obtained by evolving a Snubbull. In Pokémon: Crystal Version, it rarely appeared at Route 6 in the morning and daytime.

Other Games[edit]

A Shadow Granbull could be snagged from Cipher Peon Tanie at the Shadow Pokémon Laboratory in Pokémon Colosseum, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Endless Level 60, Endless Level 68, Forever Level 10 and Mr. Who's Den. It could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, while in Explorers of Time and Darkness it could be recruited at the first seven floors of Upper Steam Cave and the first twelve basement floors of Landslide Cave. Within the first Mystery Dungeon a non-playable Snubbull at Pokémon Square evolved into a Granbull after the main storyline following a trip to the Luminous Cave, and while the Granbull itself was clueless, the others took this as a sign that evolution was now possible. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it could be obtained at Aqua Resort and Thunder Temple.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, the Snubbull which ran away from Madam Muchmoney to chase Team Rocket's Meowth eventually evolved into a Granbull at the end of its last appearance, at which point it decided to return home. Other Granbull have since made mostly minor appearances, such as belonging to a trainer competing in the Extreme Pokémon Race in a Johto series episode and being shown as one of Cassidy of Team Rocket's Pokémon in a Sinnoh series episode.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures, a Granbull acted as the antagonist of a Gold/Silver/Crystal chapter where it captured other Pokémon to seek attention because of its delocated jaw, but after its jaw was accidentally fixed by Gold, it changed its ways. Green's Snubbull later evolved into a Granbull prior to the FireRed/LeafGreen arc and has remained a regular part of her team.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a simple combination of "grand" and "bull".
