The Fire Rod is a weapon that has appeared in several games of the The Legend of Zelda series.

Information[edit]

The Fire Rod is a rod with a red jewel at its tip. As implied by its name, this item primarily can shoot out fireballs, usually at the cost of magic power. The fireballs could be used to light torches and burn enemies. It could also melt ice and burn other features to help advance through certain areas. While the Fire Rod usually only shoots fireballs, in Four Swords Adventures, the button could be held out to make the Fire Rod release a continuous stream of flames.

In Four Swords Adventures, the Fire Rod could be temporarily upgraded to a Level 2 Fire Rod by a Great Fairy. This version had properties nearly identical to the Cane of Somaria, as it was used to create red blocks that would disperse in the form of four fireballs when a second block was created.

Appearances[edit]

In A Link to the Past, it was found at Skull Woods. The Fire Rod also appeared as one of the items that could be found at various random places throughout Four Swords Adventures.

In A Link Between Worlds, the Fire Rod was among the weapons that were available at Ravio's shop. Link could initially rent it for 100 Rupees (which would cause him to lose it if he got a game over) and could later buy it for 1200 Rupees. In this game, it instead released a moving pillar of fire, and after being purchased, it could be upgraded into a Nice Fire Rod by Mother Maiamai.

In Breath of the Wild, the Fire Rod could be found wielded by Fire Wizzrobes. Link could obtain Fire Rods by defeating them. It was classified as a melee weapon and had low durability, so it would break after a certain amount of uses. There was also a more powerful version known as the Meteor Rod, which released three fireballs at a time.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • It appeared as a weapon in Hyrule Warriors, where it was the level one weapon in the Magic Rod class.
  • In Cadence of Hyrule, it appears as one of the items that can be obtained.

Canceled Appearances[edit]

  • The Fire Rod has been found in the game code for The Minish Cap, indicating that it was intended to be included within the game at some point.

Trivia[edit]

  • It replaces the Magic Rod from The Legend of Zelda. Oddly enough, the Magic Rod is still used in place of the Fire Rod in Link's Awakening, although its properties are close to that of the Fire Rod.
  • The Fire Rod also acts as an advanced form for the Lantern. However, the rod itself could be considered to have been replaced by Fire Arrows in most later games, with the primary exceptions being Four Swords Adventures and A Link Between Worlds. Breath of the Wild is the only game where Fire Arrows and the Fire Rod coexist.
