Fire Emblem Warriors is an action game that was released in 2017 for the New Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch. It is a spin-off of the Fire Emblem series that is based on the gameplay style of Koei Tecmo's Dynasty Warriors series, in the vein of Hyrule Warriors. The game stars a combination of original characters and characters from past Fire Emblem titles.

Story[edit]

The game stars Rowan and Lianna, a pair of twin siblings who are children of the ruler of Aytolis. The kingdom is suddenly attacked, and their mother Queen Yelena is captured by the enemy. She leaves her children with the Shield of Flames. They then go on a quest to seek out Gleamstones that are created from the power of heroes from other worlds, so that they could be used to power the Shield. Their ultimate goal is to prevent Oskar from reviving the evil dragon Velezark.

Gameplay[edit]

In the vein of the Dynasty Warriors series, the basic gameplay consists of directly engaging numerous enemies in combat on the battlefield on different maps. The player is usually aided by their own forces, and in most instances, the player can switch between control of several different playable characters. This is merged with elements of Fire Emblem gameplay, as the weapons triangle is in effect, pegasus knights have their weakness against arrows, it is possible to give out tactical commands to other soldiers, and it is possible to unlock Support conversations as well as Support bonuses. The game also uses a variation of the Pair Up system from the 3DS Fire Emblem games.

As with recent Fire Emblem games, the game can be played with either Classic Mode or Casual Mode. When playing in Classic Mode, characters defeated in battle will be unable to take part in battle again, unless restored through the camp's temple. Characters fallen in Story Mode will become unavailable in other modes. The gameplay modes of Echoes are Story Mode and History Mode, with the latter consisting of maps based on past games of the Fire Emblem series.

The game has twenty-three playable characters, and there are also nine characters available through DLC. Most of the characters available are from the most recent Fire Emblem games at the time, Awakening and Fates, and there are also a number from Shadow Dragon. There is also one playable character each from Fire Emblem (Lyn) and Shadows of Valentia (Celica). Thee game also features original characters, including a new incarnation of Anna.

In addition to characters, the game's DLC packs contain new costumes, weapons, items, History Maps and/or weapon attributes. The game is also compatible with amiibo figures, as up to five amiibos could be scanned per day to earn a new weapon or a random amount of gold.

Legacy[edit]

Sequels[edit]

It was followed by Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes for the Switch in 2022, which was focused on characters from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
