Dimitri is a young red-scaled Dodongo who acts as one of Link's three semi-playable animal partners in The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons.
Background[edit]
Dimitri was a friendly young Dodongo who was found in both Holodrum and Labrynna. He was able to bite and consume a variety of enemies. He was also a skilled swimmer, as he was capable of swimming against rough currents and up waterfalls. He could also be lifted and thrown with the Power Bracelet.
In Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, Dimitri would meet and befriend Link. Depending on when/how Link obtained the Strange Flute item within the game, one of the three animal companions could later become Link's main animal companion. The Flute would become associated with the main animal and could be used to summon him. Some areas of the game would also change to match the animal's abilities.
In Oracle of Seasons, Dimitri could appear at Spool Swamp if Link had won the Strange Fruit from the Subrosian Dance Hall prior to meeting Ricky. If those conditions were met, then Dimitri would be found being harrassed by the Great Moblin's Moblin henchmen. Link would have to pay them Rupees to get them to leave Dimitri alone. At this point, Dimitri would befriend Link, and the Strange Flute would become Dimitri's Flute. Regardless of whether or not Link gained Dimitri's Flute, Dimitri would later appear at the Sunken City, where he was being bothered by a group of children who called themselves the Safety Patrol. Link could get them to leave Dimitri alone by giving them several bombs. Dimitri would then lend Link his aid in exploring the surrounding area.
In Oracle of Ages, Dimitri was first found on Crescent Island, where two Tokay thought of him as a red fish and wanted to eat him. Link could free Dimitri from them by giving them some Ember Seeds. Dimitri thanked Link by giving him a ride back to the mainland of Labrynna. Later in the game, the animal who would become Link's main animal friend would get lost in the Fairies' Woods. If Link had obtained the Strange Flute by buying it from Lynna City's shop, then Dimitri would be the animal to appear there. He would then form a bond with Link, and the Strange Flute would become Dimitri's Flute.
In the linked ending for both Oracle games, Dimitri was seen addressing Link and then departing in a nearby body of water. This was followed by an image of Link with all three of the animal friends.

- In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Dimitri appeared as a Novice-rank Suppport Spirit that protected the player fighter's ability to swim. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Dimitri's Spirit would possess Yoshi and fight alongside Young Link, with a focus on using Yoshi's Egg Lay attack (due to Yoshi swallowing opponents, like Dimitri).

- He is notably the only friendly Dodongo to appear in the series.
- Dimitri is also notably different from other Dodongos in the series in that he is associated with aquatic environments and swimming skills, and he shows no signs of having traditional Dodongo skills such as fire breath or heat resistance.
