Siebold is one of the members of the Elite Four of Kalos who acts as one of the final opponents in Pokémon X and Y. He specializes in Water-type Pokémon.
Background[edit]
Siebold was renowned as both a world-class chef and as a Pokémon trainer. He saw both cooking and Pokémon battling as fleeting senses of art, as both food and battles must come to an end within a limited period of time. Thus, he considered dedication to either life to be truly artful and sought to preserve memories of both. Although he thought the idea of being the absolute best was an absurd goal, he still sought out both the ultimate cuisine and the strongest trainers to battle.
In X/Y, he was challenged and defeated by Calem/Serena. Afterwards, he could start appearing for battles at the Battle Chateau, where he held the rank of Duke, after the player reached the equivalent rank of Duke/Duchess.
Pokémon Roster[edit]
At the Battle Chateau, Siebold uses all of his roster except for Gyarados.
In Other Pokémon Games[edit]
In Pokémon Masters EX, Siebold and his Clawitzer appeared as a playable sync pair that could be recruited at random through the game's Sync Pair Scout feature. A holiday variant of Siebold with an Octillery was also available for a limited time during the holiday season of 2019. When fought in battles, he could also pair up with Barbaracle or Starmie.
He was featured in his holiday outfit in the "Rosa's Party" Story Event, where he was seeking an assistant. Rosa managed to win the position by winning a battle against him, and Mallow also helped to inspire him to create a new dish. In the "Battle Buffet Bash" prestige event, he had a stand where he made a specialty just for Pasio: Octillery ink spaghetti, which Gloria won after battling Steven Stone. He also worked with others in making curry in an extra scene of the "Trials on the Isle" and "Galar's Poké Ball Enthusiast" Story Events, and he competed on Hilda and Diantha's team during the "Poké War Games" Costume Event. During the "Shine a Gentle Light" Story Event, Whitney asked Siebold to prepare a feast for the party and also asked him for ingredients for a medicine that she was preparing for Jasmine's Ampharos. Siebold was unsure if Whitney's outfit made her look fascinating or strange. Siebold was also featured in the "Chef's Heartful Delivery" Story Event, in which he had been hired to bake for a Collector who owned a desserts shop. The Collector had him compete against Mallow in a contest to see who could make the best apple pie, and Siebold accepted because he was intrigued by the idea of the ultimate apple pie. After Mallow was appointed the winner, the Collector accused the contest of being rigged, which caused Siebold to tell him off for all of his shortcomings and drive him to tears. Siebold then tasted Mallow's apple pie for herself and concluded that it truly was a work of art. Siebold was also featured in a Sync Pair Story as the opponent who Grant had to defeat in a one-on-one battle for his Amaura to evolve. Additionally, he appeared as an opponent for the Champion Stadium's Kalos Challenge, which imitated the Elite Four line-up of the respective region.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Siebold was featured in the first Mega Evolution Special. He was shown as a member of the Elite Four of Kalos and also owned his own luxury restaurant. Alain came to his restaurant looking for a battle, and Siebold agreed to this after he saw that Alain had a Mega Ring. Siebold also had Mega Evolution on his side, and he ultimately used a Mega Blastoise to defeat Alaian's Mega Charizard X. Regardless, Siebold was left impressed at Alain's skills.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Siebold appeared during the X/Y arc, where he and the other members of the Elite Four helped X's group and the Gym Leaders of Kalos in a united effort against Team Flare. During his first appearance, Siebold unnerved the young trainers with the intensity of his cooking at the Lost Hotel, Ramos explained that he was only doing so as an apology for the Elite Four taking as long as they did to join the fight against Team Flare. He also provided lunch for them on their journey,
Trivia[edit]
- His Japanese name is Zumi, which is also the Japanese name for a crabapple known Siebold's crabapple, which in turn is the namesake for Siebold. The name Zumi can also refer to the Japanese words for "water", "sea" and "spring fountain", while the English name can also refer to the word "sea".
- He is also mentioned by a woman at the Restaurant Le Yeah in X/Y, who claims that Siebold prepares meals for Grant and Valerie. In Pokémon Masters EX, it is also shown that Grant and Siebold are good friends. Grant says that the two of them bonded over their interest in self-improvement.
- In Pokémon Masters EX, he relates the story of how he found his Gyarados. He discovered it as a Magikarp while traveling outside of Kalos and sensed its immense potential, which was fulfilled after it became Gyarados.
