The Twili are a tribe of shadowy being that inhabit the Twilight Realm. They were introduced in Twilight Princess.
Information
Long, long ago the ancestors of Twili - their race unknown - were mighty sorcerers who were the first to try and seize the power of the Triforce. Their efforts failed and they were banished to the Twilight Realm by the Sages of Hyrule using the Twilight Mirror. The culmination of their magic became known as the Fused Shadows. In the centuries since, their appearance changes to shadowy being with pale faces and slender, tall bodies.
They established their own kingdom within the Twilight Realm. For centuries they existed in peace. One of the servants of the royal family, Zant, had hopes of being the one to succeed to royal family. He despised them for not doing anything to end the suffering of Twili. Because of his obvious greed and ambition, Midna was selected to become the Twilight Princess. Zant became consumed with anger and hatred at his tribe.

Trivia
- The other Twili in the game, besides the Shadow Assassins, are the one's encountered outside Zant's castle. Once Link 'frees' them of Zant's control, they appear to be short impish creatures - unlike Zant and Midna's true forms, which are both tall slim creatures. Howevere, it is possible that they were also transformed into imps like Midna and returned to their original form after Ganondorf's defeat.
