Debut Super Mario Sunshine

The older of two twin siblings, he is more forward and often is usually the first to approach things. Because of this, he is the more famous of the brothers and mixed into adventures more often. Famous for his jumping, though his brother is better at it. Brave and fearless, he rarely thinks twice about any adventure. Mario is acknowledged as a great warrior, defeating Jinx of Monstro Town, the Master of Toad Town, and winning the championship as the Great Gonzales in Glitzville.

Background

A long time steward of Princess Peach, despite only appearing recently, Toadsworth is an old Toad who frets constantly for the princess's safety and a love of roller coaster rides.

We first meet Toadsworth in 'Super Mario Sunshine', where he escorts Mario and Peach on their vacation to Isle Delfino. Despite his watchful eye, Peach is kidnapped by Shadow Mario and all he can do is stay back and advise Mario.

He performs the same role as Peach's caring escort in 'Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga' and 'Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door', though he can't do much more than worry and make friendly with the local ladies (Lady Lima and Zess T. respectively).

Toadsworth in his youth.

In 'Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time', Toadsworth's worrying gets so severe that he goes into shock, though he is quick to recover with a Refreshroom. The Mario Bros. run into a young Toadsworth in the past, who follows them into the present with Baby Peach in tow. Young and old Toadsworth clash at first, neither recognizing each other. They continue to clash throughout the adventure, since young Toadsworth is somewhat less panicky and more careless with Peach's safety. Their efforts to keep Baby Peach entertained provide the Mario Bros. with several new abilities, such as the Spin Jump and Ball Bros.

Toadsworth has also played a role in a few of the sports games; in 'Mario Kart: Double Dash!!' he drives the winners of a race around in his Parade Kart, in 'Mario Power Tennis' he plays umpire and commentator for the matches, and in 'Mario Superstar Baseball' he joins the team, batting with his cane and having a high compatibility with Peach, Toad, and Toadette.

During 'New Super Mario Bros.', Toadsworth is found in each Toad House where he uses his magic wand to cause item boxes to appear for Mario to find different powerups from.

Trivia

  • In MLPT, there are enemies called Shroobsworth, which is an obvious play on Toadsworth. Shroobsworth, however, comes with an intern, while Toadsworth does not (yet?).
  • Goombella calls Toadsworth the steward of Peach's Castle in PMTTYD, though he acts more like Peach's personal steward. He seems to have ousted the Chancellor in SMRPG and the Minister of Peach's Castle in PM.
  • He is said to be sixty years old during Paper Mario 2.
