Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 is an advanced remake of Super Mario World made for the Game Boy Advance and is the second in the Super Mario Advance line of enhanced handheld remakes.

Information[edit]

This version of Super Mario World has less changes when compared to the previous game. There were cosmetic changes such as the addition of an opening cutscene and some voice clips for the playable characters. Previous remakes had added red coins to collect in each level, but as Super Mario World already had Dragon Coins hidden in each level, collecting all of them became an optional accomplishment in place of adding new coins. There was also a saving feature and other changes to make the game easier. One main gameplay change was that Luigi now had different abilities than Mario to reflect his gameplay from Super Mario Bros. 2 and some of his other platforming appearances.

Like the previous game, Super Mario Advance 2 also contains the Mario Bros. Classic game that can be played with one to four players.

Legacy[edit]

Ports and Remakes[edit]

  • It was released for download on the Wii U as part of the Wii U Virtual Console in 2014 (2016 for Europe and Australia). The original Super NES version of Super Mario World was also available through the same system.
  • In May 2020, it was added to the Nintendo Switch's digital library of Game Boy Advance games that could be played by subscribers of the Nintendo Switch Online's Expansion Pack program.

Sequels[edit]

Despite Super Mario Bros. 3 having come out before both games, the Super Mario World port was followed by Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island which as the name suggests is a port of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
