Super Mario Bros. is a 1986 Game & Watch game based on the NES game of the same name. It is part of the Crystal series.

Story[edit]

Princess Toadstool writes Mario a letter telling of how she has been kidnapped by Bowser and she can only be rescued by him traveling through eight different worlds. She tells him that she has hidden Super Mushrooms and Starmen inside of blocks to help him.

Information[edit]

Despite having the same name as the original game, it is a completely different game rather than a simple port. Each world has a different theme with unique challenges. The game is notable as being one of the few (if not only) Game & Watch game to feature horizontal side scrolling. A few familiar enemies appear in the game, such as Bullet Bill and Lakitu (who uses hammers instead of a Spiny).

Although Bowser himself does not appear in the game, he does make a cameo as the 'Alarm Koopa' for the watch portion of the game. The Koopa walks on all fours, but has Bowser's distinctive horns, spikes, and hair.

Rereleases[edit]

  • The game was rereleased in 1988 in the Widescreen series.
  • In 1998, it was released as part of Toymax's Mini-Classics series.
