Rich Wheeler is a pilot in the F-Zero series and the protagonist of the anime series.

Background[edit]

Before he was a pilot, Rick Wheeler was a detective in the year 2051. He was in pursuit of his arch-rival, Zoda, until he was injured. He was placed in suspended animation for 150 years until he was finally released by Jody Summer. As it turned out, Zoda had been brought back by Black Shadow as part of the villainous Dark Million.

Rick Wheeler enlisted in the F-Zero races to keep his nemesis from winning the large prize money that comes with the race. His pursuit of Zoda led him to crossing paths with the likes of Octoman and Blood Falcon while gaining the help of Captain Falcon and Jack Levin. After beating Zoda in a race, he raced Black Shadow and defeated him, which turned out to only be an alter ego of him and not the real thing.
